Student seeking an internship

How's it going everyone,

My name is Sterling and I am 19 years old and you might have seen me posting around here or the Member's Journal area.

I am currently seeking an internship in the automotive industry. Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated by cars, and ever since the first time I drove one, I knew they would be a huge part of my life. I have come to know many members on this forum, and I thought to myself, what better way to start my automotive career than to start with the community I have come to know and love.

Ever since my first love (MY2004 Subaru WRX), I did my best to complete every mechanical repair or installation myself. I was absolutely addicted to modding my vehicles and it never stopped. I also have found an extreme addiction to driving. Ever since I have owned my FRS I have been to the track for HPDE 6+ times and have never been able to wipe the smile off of my face.

I am currently attending Saddleback College, I am in my second semester and am continuing my pursuit of majoring in Business with a minor in Automotive Technology. I am planning on getting all of my ASE certifications as well.

I am not looking for a specific position, as I will start anywhere. I just know that my life will not be satisfying until I find a position in the industry that I absolutely love.

PM me or give me a call at 949-444-8747 if you would like my resume. I look forward to hearing from some of you!

Thank you guys.

Good luck man!

Having a LinkedIn to show us would be probably helpful.

The position doesn't find you--you find the position.

Have you thought about local dealerships in your area that are hiring (for anything)? Santa Margarita Ford immediately comes to mind.

Good Luck man - i was in your shoes and I wanted to work in the auto industry and I didn't stop until I landed in it and in a position that I absolutely love. Don't settle for anything less.

While I have put serious thought into applying to be a porter at local dealerships, I thought that I should check with the community that I am most involved in to see if the vendors/shops that I support need any help first and foremost.

Make sure that you're a full time student. Take whatever internship is thrown at you. The best place to check is your school or even ask your professor.

I feel like it would have been more effective to reach out to the sponsors directly via PM and/or email, which would have given you an easy opportunity to follow up with a resume.

Please don't take this the wrong way and feel that I'm on some sort of warpath to discredit your efforts, I'm hoping to give you some feedback.

No I definitely didn't take it that way, and I appreciate your feedback, I need all that I can get. I will contact some of the vendors directly I was just hoping that this would catch their attention if they needed help. Thank you!!!

Good luck with your search. If you don't really have a preference, maybe this might help?

It's for a Volkswagen Group of America internship. Might be worth a try. Other manufacturers might have something similar as well.

I used to work at a couple different dealers as a tech for a few years. Personally I can never go back to it. Nor do I ever want to. But everyone experience will differ. Mine just wasn't so good even though I was good at what I did. Too much politics and what not. Just thought I should throw that out there.

Forgot there's also this:

Looks like its closed for now, but something to keep an eye on.

I don't believe OP qualifies for the internships in the second link, Fish.

He needs to have a degree in-hand before "Spring 2014" which is like tomorrow.

PM Sent to you.

I know Toyota has a corporate office in Orange County, I believe Hyundai does as well. I don't know which other manufacturers have local offices, maybe some others know.

Fish 02-28-2014 01:42 AM

@whoster Yeah, I just wanted to post that as something to keep in mind for the future when it does open up. I believe one of the guys at work came from that program.

Regardless of what happens, good luck OP. I hope you find a position you'll love.
