I wanna own ALL the cars!

Does anyone else have this problem?

I feel like I need to own multiple cars... a lot of em. In fact it leads me to wanting to invest in a storage facility (the ones you can rent out) just so I can have a place to put them (and use the rental income as excuse :P).

It's very similar to like Gran Turismo or Forza ... I'll wanna buy cars just to have them. On occasion take them for a spin, but own them just so I can drive it if I want to. (Beginner collection might include for example, AE86, Mazda RX-7 FD, Honda S2000, Mazda Miata Club Edition, BMW E30...etc.)

If anyone has done this or plans to ... are there any strategies to making this a reality? Is this something that can actually happen? Or am I stuck dreaming about things like this forever. I mean I understand the concept, "looks like I'll just have to make a butt load of money" . . . but is it really something people do?

This goal of having my own car collection of sorts is right up there next to my own race team / racecar , and having access or building a private race track :P

There's more to owning a car and a car collection than just the cost of the car itself.

But basically, you answered your own question.

No poor people have car collections. They just have cars that they use to get to work and back home. Some don't even have a home.

Money money and more money.

Buying them, storing them, maintaining them, insuring them. Even if you could buy the cars themselves without accruing any debt the monthly carrying costs will likely bankrupt you.

My friend has a similar problem, but instead of keeping all the cars he just sells the one he has and buys a new one. He only keeps his cars on average 1 year. The longest he's ever kept a car was his wife's Golf from before they got married because it was a lease.

At least he gets to drive them and experience a bunch of different cars, even if he doesn't get to keep them.

The most ide ever own is 4 max no matter how much money I had. 1 sporty large SUV for transporting large goods and traveling only. 1 classic car as a project. 1 fun but comfortable DD. And 1 stupid fast car I could take out every Saturday. More than 1 in each category seems pointless to be regardless of income.

True story, you can only drive so many cars. 3 or 4 seems to be the right number.

Nothing worse than a whole garage full of cars sitting there rotting.

No idea. Never been in one. I have tested out the tires that come on the Prius though. Does that count?

I got that problem, I'm almost 32 and I change car avery 2-3 years. I had the chance to own some of my favorites already, a 98 civic HB (I want another one), a 2002 SI which was supercharged, two celicas, a WRX, 350Z, and now my FR-S.

I want to eventually own a BMW, mustang (or any other V8 muscle), older japanese car and a supra, oh and a truck too! haha! Since I'm not that rich..I'll do it one car at a time haha!

And there's that 2 wheel addiction too, there's more motorcycles that I wish I had than cars frankly.

Even three can be too many. I currently have 3 street legal cars and as a result the BRZ now sits in a garage and never gets driven unless the M3 is broken. If the BRZ wasn't there I could just use the track car instead.. not super comfy but whatever it's the most reliable thing I own so I could take it wherever... It's why I added the "too many cars.. never." joke to my sig.

On the flip side, if I had just one car it would suck IMO.

I would love to have a large number of cars. It would be great to wake up each morning and have to decide which car to take to work out of a large number of fun options. As you said though, the cost is rather high...

In one sense though it makes me think twice about getting the FR-S, given that I try to keep it low miles / take good care of it (storing over winter).

I ask myself why I didn't buy a car that's already /appreciating/ or at least not dropping anymore... instead of taking care of one that continues to drop in value :P

I'm running 2 cars right now, I get a break because my sister pays insurance on one of them. But I couldn't imagine keeping track of maintenance records and driving it often and such with multiple cars. Not to mention the cost, if I'd have to pay insurance on both I would probably put liability on one but honestly I don't like to drive with liability so I'd probably sell it.
