What my wallet needs to expect from OptiCoat

I've searched a bit, and it looks like Opti-Coat is the detail-du-jour.

I've had my Whiteout FR-S for about a week now, and I enjoy the particular luxury of parking outside. Biggest detractors to keeping my car even remotely clean are sprinklers and overnight condensation (I honestly try to avoid the sprinklers as much as possible).

I understand paint-prep is a big part of the final cost, and it's been parked outside since I had it delivered, and frankly from what I can see, the dealership's excuse for a pre-delivery detail is just woeful.

Here are my questions:
- What should I be expecting in terms of cost?
- Is it worth it to spend (the answer to the first question) on a leased vehicle?

$300-$500 from a good detailer. Since your car is so new, you're looking @ $300. $500 is if the paint is bad.

I just got Opti-Guard done (The professional version of Opti-Coat, which is thicker and can only be applied by an authorized Opti-Coat detailer...of which there are only a few.) by Mike Chang, he's done 85 FR-S/BRZ...you could be # 86 ;)

I'll PM you his contact details.

No. It's like tinting a car you don't plan to keep.

Just noticed its a rental.. why paint to keep a car looking for the next owner ?

If you plan to buy it out at the end of your lease then do it.

Despite the lease situation, my vain self still wants a mostly clean vehicle while I drive it around.

How much maintenance does an Opti-Coat require to keep clean? If I can get away with spraying/wiping it down every so often while maintaining a nice level of cleanliness, then I'm all for spending the $300 ($100/year, basically).

If I still need to put effort into actually washing it, then obviously it's not really going to be worth shelling out the moneys.

The idea is that you never have to wax it again. You'll still want to wash/wipe it down, but you won't have to wax it ever again, assuming you do a good job washing it.

buy your own bottle of opticoat and have the detailer use that, becuase they can get stingy with it.
a nice fat layer of opticoat

You can't buy the professional grade Opticoat they use, which is way thicker and stronger... You gotta pay for services...
