Not loud Enough

So i just installed an Invidia Q300 exhaust, but its not as loud as I was expecting. Is that how the Q300 is or do i have to let it break in more?
Also would any brand mid-pipe fit if i wanted to do a resonator delete?

BRZPDX 02-25-2014 01:44 AM

Q300 is very quiet. I have a full catless EL header, 2.5 Invidia catless front pipe and the Q300 muffler and it gets loud at WOT but cruising is almost no sound. Good news is its not raspy at all going full catless.

boredom.is.me 02-25-2014 01:49 AM

Congrats! You bought the quietest available exhaust for this platform.
...couldn't resist

There is a break in period, but that still won't beat the fact that...^

Fortis 02-25-2014 02:02 AM

Sell the Q300 and get an Invidia N1 or Perrin non resonated! :burnrubber:

Cjymiller 02-25-2014 02:29 AM

unresonated, uncatted front pipe will make you louder if you dont want to deal with sourcing a new exhaust.

I dont want to do a cat delete, I would rather get a unresonated mid-pipe, but i dont know how much of a difference it would make.

and/or catless headers

do both and I'm almost willing to bet you'll be waking up the neighborhood even with a q300, or is it just that damn quiet?

Edit: You ninja posted ahead of me... So why no to deleting cats? I guess try a high flow cat?

Jolaessss 02-25-2014 03:02 AM

I agree with @Fortis
for the longest time I was debating whether i should get the Q300 or the N1. I'm glad i chose the N1

should have done a bit more research to know that the q300 is the quietest anyways you can go catless front pipe or uel catless header and it will boost the sound anyways goodluck :D

Almost none. You should add a header instead.

Kelbyat07 02-25-2014 03:43 AM

Definitely get the catless frontpipe and catless headers. My recommendation is an invidia catless frontpipe and borla uel headers. Great sound I promise.

Bg8780 02-25-2014 04:22 AM

OP if you end up going this route please post a video. I would like to see how the Q300 sounds with no cats in the system.

husker741 02-25-2014 05:08 AM

I never fully understand why people order these exhausts, get them, and then aren't what they expect. Don't you do a good amount of research before purchasing? There are so many threads stating the exhaust is near stock sound and videos of how it sounds. Maybe I'm the only one that obsessed over exhaust videos for about 2 months before deciding what I wanted?

Easier said than done, lol. I went from a full 3" exhaust that was too raspy, too quiet with the Q300, to the N1 where I found a happy medium. Some of these exhausts are hard to gauge with catless headers and lack of videos. You'll find tons with stock headers/frontpipe and just catback alone.

It is rather funny when people realise they should do headers first for both gains and sound, rather than wasting money for no gain on cat backs that were designed/matched to stock headers.

Break in periods typically take the harshness out of the system, making his already quiet exhaust even quieter.

My main tip (tho it is too late for you) want a good/loud exhaust? do not buy Invidia

IAmNotTheDriftKing 02-25-2014 01:20 PM

Keep it!! Buy some headers, it will make the exhaust loud but it won't be annoying. You will love it!

My Tsudo got louder after break in, but I installed CB and FP together so they may have been the cat breaking in.

ncmx5 02-25-2014 01:44 PM

I have the Q300 with the invidia catless front pipe.. After breaking it , its loud on cold starts and when your WOT, but it has a nice rumble.. I would get that its pretty cheap.

ExcelerateRep 02-25-2014 02:03 PM

The Q300 is definitely the Gentlemen's exhaust. It's quiet while cruising but you can still hear yourself when you're at WOT.

My buddy has the Borla Header, HKS Front Pipe, DC Sports Over-pipe, and Invidia N1 and it's a pretty loud setup. I personally am not a fan of how it loud it is now and neither is he. He's going to be picking up the Q300 as soon as he sells the N1.

S2D4 is definitely correct about doing the headers/front pipe/over pipe first. That's where you're going to get most of your power and a fair amount of sound. I did a Kwaftwerks SC already with no exhaust mods. I'll be working my way front to back to see how much louder those 3 parts actually make the stock exhaust.

FR-S Matt 02-25-2014 02:12 PM

Having used both the Q300 and the N1, it depends on what you want. The N1 will give you a deeper, louder, more defined UEL rumble than the Q300 will, but you will have some drone and interior conversations will be a bit louder. The Q300 more of the sound will be out of the back of the car.

The Q300 is very civil inside. You can hear the engine over the exhaust till you're WOT.

There's things I love about both exhausts. If I get tired of the N1 ever, I will certainly go back to the Q300. Good news is they can be swapped so easily because they use the same midpipe.

wparsons 02-25-2014 02:25 PM

Even a catted front pipe will increase the exhaust volume. Header (catted or catless) + front pipe (catted or catless) will definitely make the Q300 a good amount louder. Will it be loud enough for you, that's up to what you want.

Wilson15 02-25-2014 03:26 PM

im also debating between these 2 exhaust and the greddy elite sp. How does the greddy sound wise compare to the N1 and Q300. Is it louder than the Q300?

Fortis 02-25-2014 04:06 PM

The Greddy Elite is an Axleback so it's going to be the quietest of the three. It has a great tone but don't expect much in the power gain department. I think the Greddy Elite is great if you want something that's a touch more aggressive than the stock exhsust.

what i dont understand is what is in the mid-pipe, people are telling me that it is a resonator and others are telling me its a cat that is not read by the computer, which one is it? and if i decide to take it off will it void my warranty?

oliverc 02-25-2014 04:49 PM

I have a Q300 and a Perrin CAI. The cold air intake really makes up for the quiet exhaust, but it still is nice and quiet on the highway, but gets louder at 4k rpm.

Midpipe is separate from the front pipe. Front pipes are catted, some resonated, and catless. Midpipes are either resonated or non resonated.

This might help you visualize it:

http://blog.perrinperformance.com/wp...am-550x271.jpg

The order of the parts is:

header --> overpipe --> front pipe --> midpipe --> muffler

- The header contains a cat.
- The front pipe contains a second cat and a resonator.
- The midpipe contains a resonator.

When people say catback, they're really talking about everything behind the second cat (i.e., midpipe and back).

Wilson15 02-25-2014 06:27 PM

what exhausts can you guys recommend thats in between N1 and Q300 in regards to loudness, other than nameless.

nlowell 02-25-2014 06:46 PM

Have you heard my combo?

[ame]http://youtu.be/JBfkOVk60u0[/ame]

Q300
Nameless resonated, high flow cat combo
Openflash header
K&N filter

Here is one I took before the header install

[ame]http://youtu.be/Ztt6vhU7Y7Q[/ame]

The rest of the adds really open up the Q300 sound. Personally I wouldn't want anything louder but that is just my taste. I already turn a lot of heads when I go WOT.

We have ONE Agency Power cat-less over pipe w/ a resonator front pipe combo for the FRS/BRZ if you are interested in mating it up with your exhaust. This will certainly help you achieve more sound out of the exhaust.

If anyone else is interested let me know.

Ive decided to sell the Q300 and probably just get the Berk muffler delete, sounds nice and its very simple.
Thanks for the help everyone

StormTrooper 02-26-2014 12:59 AM

From the most quiet to the loudest huh..... Good luck.

N1 + UEL ftw. Best sounding UEL exhaust I have found yet. Sounds like a WRX.

Does it at least sound different from stock?

A lot of people saying its too quiet but i'm wondering if its quieter than stock or the same.

I'm also debating between the Q300 or Nameless axle back.

Love the outside noise, HP gain and polished look of the Q300 but is the quietest exhaust.

Nameless is better quality(apparently), deeper tone, inside cabin is a bit louder, $100 cheaper but is an axleback.
