Hard choices

Im ready to spend money on my BRZ now but dont which way to go; buy a front pipe, headers, exhaust, intake, wheels, some other exterior upgrades, and ecu or just a turbo kit. Its hard, I want the power but I don't want to throw all the cash in one upgrade. Any suggestions?

Boost it and get full exhaust. Trust me you'll be happy

Suspension and tires before power. Brakes might be a good idea but really just need a high quality pad unless you plan on putting 20" wheels on it.

Fix the driver first. No better gains can possibly be made, well unless you're a drag racer, then you should just start with a different chassis.

Dearest internet,

I bought this car because I love it and I like all the things about it and all the cool upgrades it has. Will YOU please build it for me? /s

how many more "I have x money what to buy" threads do we need? buy what you want it is your car. There is plenty of information and opinions here to draw your own conclusions. What do YOU want?

I ask you, OP, what do you want to do to your car? What sounds fun to you?

pearsor1 02-24-2014 01:00 PM

Youre right G-Man!! Ill just do it all.

Why throw money at it.. There is much to enjoy in its stock form..
Part of the beauty of this car is that it comes from the factory and is
Fun to drive right out of the box..
Everyone wants to turn it into something quicker before they really know what the car is all about..
I say get an exhaust system.. An axle back or catback.. Adds another dimension to the sporty character of the car.. Check out some track events and find out what the car needs first hand...
Check out the forums and see all the hassles and problems some people have with tuning, warranty issues and driveability problems..
Nothing wrong with modding .. But find out what it needs first for yourself before you spend a lot of time and money only to realize you were better off before you started and had some money in your pocket..
I can say all this because I was the same way.. Couldn't leave anything alone.. Had to make it better, faster.. Etc.. Right now! I know better now.. After a whole bunch of lessons and mistakes..

The impetuousness of youth... "Youth is wasted on the young" .

I had fun, mistakes and all.. Don't get old before your time,
but use your head before you jump into something and try a little patience.
It's all good.. Enjoy the car..

Because this is a car designed for superior handling out of the box, if you are not building a show car then you have to be really careful on what you modify with this car to not destroy the good handling characteristics and degrade certain aspects of its performance.

I've seen too many people I know that overmodded their cars to the point *it looks amazing with XXX HP @ the wheel but drives like a friggin' piece of shit* and they regret it in the end cuz they hate driving it, or they end up constantly chasing a moving target (fix one thing just to have another issue). But if it makes you happy then all the power to you. :D

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it.

I agree. I bought coilovers (KWV3s) and honestly I don't believe they improved the car much. It's a bit lower and firmer now, but I wouldn't say it handles any better tbh. You just hit the limits of the tires quicker.

what do you dislike most about the car? change that

I like everything except for the acceleration and power output.
