According to Autoblog it's coming early 2014

Bleh. I don't think the bean counters will be too upset when the final sales numbers come out at the end of the model year. I think a sportback with a glass roof would be better than a convertible.
|
Why stop at making it convertible? No power bump? Maybe im just being impatient.
|
im interested to see a real rendering done by toyota or subaru because the few i have seen I have not been all that excited about..... but i do miss my convertible s2000 :sigh:
|
I think I was more excited about the FR sedan mentioned at the end. Maybe I've been spending too much time I'm BMW's and lusting after a Toyota chaser.
Hopefully in the end this FR sedan will just be a low level Lexus that only comes in automatic. This way I don't have to be tempted to buy another FR |
I prefer a T-top or shooting brake over a convertible.

Where they got that source? Seriously, 2 BS rumor that never ends in this car are 1. TC/SC & 2. Convertible

I would buy either of those in a heart beat :) I would love to see real renders of these using current pictures! Where is a accomplished photoshopper when you need one! very awesome! and i agree the targa top would bring back the early 90s RWD car vibe!:burnrubber:
I wonder what the $ and the damage would be to the structure of the car without that section if you had it done.... nothing like a targa top with a nice roll cage!!! :) |

If there's anything toyota has ever been good at about their cars and model releases, its definitely teasing. |
Okay so no body laugh.... this is using MS Paint so I did the best I could. You would think being a CAD engineer i would have photoshop on my computer....but sadly no. lol.

Toyota said the AS1 was designed for a convertible from the beginning. We shall see soon how much more it weighs, if it is only like 150 pounds more, all is good. |

Here is a photo I edited from the test drive event i was at.... if only i could of test drove a targa FRS!!!! :) Again sorry its in paint and im not skilled in the ways of photo editing :) |

Keep the car a coupe or make a optional real convertible\roadster with a powered top. Nobody wants to get out to raise or lower their top.. If Nissan can do it, so can Toyota. For example... 370Z coupe 3245 pounds 370Z roadster 3479 pounds (powered softtop convertible) IS 250C 3840 pounds (powered hardtop convertible) IS 250 3435 pounds |

Want open air? Get a motorcycle.
Now, who do I have to throw money at to get a hatchback FR-S? |
I have a great idea!!! If they can make a power convertible... Why not make a power targa, where it slides back & you still can have visibility threw the rear view mirror. How? Because the targa top is mostly glass (like a tC roof look).

Both German Auto Bild as well as Dutch Autoweek report Toyota having confirmed the introduction of a convertible to them:

Now Autovisie reports that a spokesperson for Scion in the US also confirmed a convertible

I still think the hatch would be a huge boost to the practicality of the twins.
It would also solve the issue of rear-seat headroom, and adding cargo capacity. Plus the hot hatch lovers out there would go nuts. Heck, even though they were aiming for 53/47 weight split, maybe a Hatch would put more weight in the rear. |
Carbuzz reporting that C&D is reporting FR-S getting a drop top
|
It doesn't look as bad as I thought...
|
Yeah they have been dropping this rumor for a while. I don't know how I feel about it, because I really don't think their is evidence out there that shows this car was designed to be a convertible from the start. I would put money on marketing people jumping on the bandwagon and making the claims that this will happen and the chassis wont suffer because of it.
|
Now its a direct miata competitor!! Looks like toyobaru is after the whole enchilada.
|
Does anyone else see a vague s2000 resemblance?
|
Looks S2K/DB9 Volante/Miata/MR2-esque with the top on.
|
All I want to know is where they're getting their "source/rumor" from? Seriously, several dozen time some dbag auto blog quote from our forum... & the thread topic was "things you wish to have in FT86." some members were saying like turbo, SC, AWD & other stuff, and those auto blogging morons took it as real or something & wrote an article stating "Toyota is bringing AWD turbo ver of FT86."
Seriously, where they got the source! |
