More rumors: FR-S Convertible for 2014

According to Autoblog it's coming early 2014

With an epic chassis and the lowest center of gravity in the business, there's plenty for enthusiast to love about the Scion FR-S. Except, that is, for those who prefer to take their nimble, affordable sports cars with the roof down. Their choices are rather limited in this price category to the Mazda MX-5 and Ford Mustang, but if the latest reports prove accurate, the FR-S – which is, of course, virtually identical to the Subaru BRZ and sold overseas as the Toyota GT 86 – is preparing to throw its hat in the ring, as well.

Long rumored, a convertible version of the jointly-developed "Toyobaru" coupe could stand to boost sales figures and help the bean-counters justify the expenditure on the new platform. However while the speedster concept recently showcased at Long Beach lost its rear seats (along with most of its windshield), Car and Driver predicts that the FR-S convertible will keep the auxiliary pair in the back – though the addition of a folding roof mechanism would likely mean that would come at the expense of most of the trunk room.

We're told to expect the FR-S convertible to arrive sometime late in 2013 or early in 2014, with a price tag that would tack a few grand onto the coupe's $25,000 MSRP. Look for the same 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower boxer four to carry over with a choice of six-speed transmissions in either manual or automatic configurations. Beyond that, Toyota may be considering basing a larger four-door sedan and coupe off the new platform, which could stand to make the money men back at headquarters – to say nothing of the enthusiasts – even more happy.

Bleh. I don't think the bean counters will be too upset when the final sales numbers come out at the end of the model year. I think a sportback with a glass roof would be better than a convertible.

Why stop at making it convertible? No power bump? Maybe im just being impatient.

im interested to see a real rendering done by toyota or subaru because the few i have seen I have not been all that excited about..... but i do miss my convertible s2000 :sigh:

I think I was more excited about the FR sedan mentioned at the end. Maybe I've been spending too much time I'm BMW's and lusting after a Toyota chaser.

Hopefully in the end this FR sedan will just be a low level Lexus that only comes in automatic. This way I don't have to be tempted to buy another FR

I prefer a T-top or shooting brake over a convertible.

Put the joke on the side, it's interesting to see that, they're planning to make convertible. iirc, while back, I was talking bout if they gonna make convertible or not

Courtesy of Ichi, of course. Source or not, I still like the idea of a targa over a convertible. That would truly be a 90's sports car revival.

I would buy either of those in a heart beat :) I would love to see real renders of these using current pictures! Where is a accomplished photoshopper when you need one! very awesome! and i agree the targa top would bring back the early 90s RWD car vibe!:burnrubber:

I wonder what the $ and the damage would be to the structure of the car without that section if you had it done.... nothing like a targa top with a nice roll cage!!! :)
