It has been fun, but time for a change!

Well everyone,
I have been lurking on these forums since before the FRS/BRZ twins were even released and I must say it is definitely one of the better forums I have been apart of.

I owned a Hot Lava FRS since the day they were released in May/June 2012. However, I decided to trade it in for a 2015 WRX STi. The FRS was one of the most fun and enjoyable purchases I have ever made, but after this winter, the rwd got to me quite a bit (A lot of hills here). After thought, I decided for an awd. I know, the FRS/BRZ twins look aesthetically 100% better, but the STi will be equally as fun.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the dealer offered me $18,700 trade in for my 2013 A/T with 14,500 miles plus a $800 pre-order discount.

Again, thanks everyone for all the useful information and overall an enjoyable experience! I'm sure I will keep lurking for quite some time.

Have fun with your 2015 WRX STi!

Why didn't you go for a WRX instead? That would be one of the few vehicles I would upgrade to currently.

Better and more modern powertrain, faster stock, and similar fuel economy to a BRZ/FR-S. The EJ in the STi sucks down gas like a full sized pickup.

unless you're driving 60+ miles a day, I don't get why people are so crazy about fuel economy. especially on a car enthusiast forum.

Enjoy the new Sti

Except that the WRX has the FA20DIT which is the turbo version of the engine in our cars while the STi still uses the ancient EJ25 which was developed during the Reagan era. I guess if you only look at horsepower numbers the WRX is "worse", but a much more usable powerband due to the twin scroll turbo and a much improved suspension puts it on par or ahead of the STi for 99.9% of the situations you'll be driving it in. It's something like 8000 dollars between the price of a similarly equipped STi and a WRX, I just don't see the point of getting a car that's slower in the straight line, less efficient, and marginally better in handling for those 8000 bucks.

It's not a huge deal, but when the car is getting worse fuel economy than a full sized pickup with a V8 there's a problem. It's not like there isn't a solution to the problem either, there's a superior car sitting right next to it on the same lot that gets better fuel economy and is just as fast.

why do you care so much? it's not your money...
congrats on the STI man, enjoy your new ride.

Economy will be roughy 20-25mpg depending on how it is driven, of course. So that's not too bad considering the power increase. I don't see how a full size truck does that well? I mean FRS/BRZ doesn't get that much better with 30mpg at best. Until you compare it to a car that gets 40+mpg with 300+HP then I will see the point of argument.

Well, good on ya ..... jskurucz.

Enjoy your new machine .... :)

Thanks for making a gracious post where you give appreciation to the car, provide a bit of helpful information, and have legitimate reasoning for trading it in, and not making a post to dump on it and and let us know what a fat wallet you have.

That sounds like you made the right choice for yourself and your situation, and you've still got a car that will be a lot of fun to drive.

Thanks again - take care and drive it like you mean it!

If mine wasnt a lease I would probably look to trade it myself.

OICU812 02-24-2014 05:12 PM

If I needed an all year round vehicle I would have never got an FRS anyhow. Mines only used in summer so should last years. Although I don't like Subarus WRXs in general looks wise they get around fantastic in winter. Enjoy your new ride OP.
