Monogram or 2015...

1 Attachment(s)
I am very excited to purchase the much anticipated Monogram Edition FR-S, but here is my dilemma. I have been set on purchasing an FR-S in the color asphalt/grey, but it seems Canada is not supplying this color for the near GT86 specs. This is the closest to the GT86 spec we have got so far, so what do people think I should do???
Purchase a BLACK monogram edition, white monogram edition, grey BRZ, or just wait until 2015 models come out with HOPEFULLY all of these features as standard or options.

Let me know your thoughts. :sigh:

Haven't you heard the news?

This car isn't selling well.

You might not see changes in 2015.

Better buy now before it's too late

Another option - drive down to washington to get an asphalt monogram. Although with the US/CAD exchange its a big kick in the nuts right now.

I really hope the monogram's options don't become standard next year. That would kind of suck.

During the winter that grey color blends in with EVERYTHING and some granny might not see you on an overcast day. I'd go with black if I had to make my purchase again. Red is wearing on me as my last four cars have been this color, lol.

Basically you have two options if you're going to buy the car today.

1) Buy a Monogram, irregardless of colour and if its really a colour you don't approve of vinyl wrap it with the colour you want.

2) Buy the BRZ Sport-tech with the colour you want, hope to find a grey FRS owner who wants the BRZ front and trade.

The problem with the 2015 option...we don't know what's coming in the form of upgrades, we don't know if the Monogram will return, we don't even know how long the car will continue on for. However I agree, Scion Canada mucked up the Monograms big time. There's absolutely no reason why standard cars get the full colour palette and US Monograms also get full colour palette, but Canadian Monograms are forced into 3 colours. I ordered a red, but I truly wanted the Ultramarine.

You should probably wait for the 2016 twin turbo H-6 engine...

By then the limited 11, 12 and 13 series along with a new limited monogram series featuring color matched key fobs should be available..

uh boy.. Toyota's mono spec and back to back limited editions have really screwed up their customers heads! All they had to do was promote the car and offer it two configurations: a drivers version lacking the extra niceties enthusiasts don't care about and a deluxe on with all the bells and whistles with the current headunit (as the original HU was an embarrassment) and let the market decide who wants what. Now everybody is having second thoughts about waiting for what's next (it's a car not a smartphone or and an iPad!). Sporty cars are not what you base high sales number unless you make super cars because they're inherently impractical and only appeal to a certain small demographic. I don't think Nissan's 370Z sales are keeping the company afloat. Are the Camaro (getting stale) and new Stingray (too expensive) only sales keeping GM in the black? Automotive sales failures are Acura's ZDX, Honda CRZ, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Infiniti EX, and Mitsubishi i-MiEV .

Icing on the cake is some idiot from Europe calling the twin sales a failure/disappointment and people latching onto that (bad press can kill anything). The 86 is very over priced in Europe and in the States did Toyota think all the good reviews & positive press mean they can save money by not having proper advertising campaigns?!

People that hold off for high hopes makes me giggle

Anyone can put in these small extras themselves, why wait and have a factory do it for really no less... Working on these cars making small changes is so easy it's rediculous.

Even if in 2015 Scion opened the FR-S to options and accessories available in the Monogram/GT86, I guarantee you Scion Canada will screw up the packaging options somehow and you're gonna be left without an option the Americans get.

If you're even considering a BRZ Limited in the colour you want, why not get it now, it has all the same features as the Monogram, and you can probably get it for less.

Pickleahoy 02-23-2014 05:13 PM

Go look at the color in person even if it isnt a monogram. I had a hard time not thinking "man, that color looks really good" at every FRS on the lot and I was supposedly set on a Firestorm. Ended with a 10 series lol
