Koni inserts.....

Does anyone sell the inserts already in Stock housings for the front?

FastWhite 02-22-2014 12:19 PM

Try Turn In Concepts. I remember reading that a member here bought a set already done.

Yep. TIC sent me my Koni inserts in housing pre-made. That way I have the originals to swap back into the car if necessary.

Was that a custom order? Didn't see any options for the koni inserts or rce Springs for stock housings.

I don't think it was a 'custom' order. They were advertising it in thread here on the forums. It may have been one of those 'sales' threads that has since been deactivated (since I can't find the thread searching now).

I do have a review thread from last year where I mentioned it: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...+concepts+koni

I don't have the paperwork in front of me, but I want to say that the shock bodies plus installation was an additional $300. I could be wrong, though. Your best bet is to give them a call and ask. I know using a telephone these days is scary, but they are seriously good guys.

EDIT: Here's a post where TIC mentions it: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...5&postcount=22

I bought new front strut housing from TIC that were pre-cut with the inserts already inserted. Unfortunately, one of the front inserts was leaking on adjustment from the factory and I had to RMA it. Aside from the extended wait from Koni's warranty team, I enjoyed that I didn't have to cut stock strut housings and now have a backup set to use if anything ever happens.

Is it worth $300? Well that depends how much your time is worth to you. Two new housings ain't exactly cheap, but the labor on cutting isn't "intense" - it just made sense to me to go that route as I didn't have the cutting tools or a place to cut (and vent the fluid).

The rears are just a swap right? No cutting?

So if I can find this I would be out 1k instead of the 750ish. And still need/want Springs.

rears just require a bit of drilling on the top hats to allow the thicker threads to come through. Other then that straight in.

Look at the Bilsteins. They aren't inserts.

^ If the Bilsteins were out when I bought the Konis...I'd have bought the Bilsteins instead.

Yep, that's it. Just insert a drill bit to enlarge the through-hole. If you have the space (or can get it) and the tools (or can get them) and have done woodwork or tile you can do the cutting - I just preferred to have replacement dampers in case something happened.
