"Type 2" project teaser. :)

That is all. I'm not sure if I'm 100% on it yet, the outer vertical strakes are what's holding me up.

Diffuser?

Joakim3 02-21-2014 03:49 AM

Yeah the outer ones are kinda in your face look at me lol, curve them like the inner ones and scale them back a dad and you'll be golden!!!

That's what I originally wanted but this is the first render.

FR-Slide 02-21-2014 10:57 AM

I dunno, I kinda dig it as is. If anything, just soften the trailing edges of the outer fins.

Any idea on price/timeline at this point, or still too early to tell?

FT-86 SpeedFactory 02-21-2014 11:23 AM

Gimme.

Ammonia 02-21-2014 11:35 AM

I volunteer my car for a test fitting.

Seconded. And I'm like 80 miles closer to Tacoma, so think of the savings!!:D

boredom.is.me 02-21-2014 12:35 PM

Finally! I'm still sticking with mine though. :p

I will say that those fins look real babyish.

cdo221 02-21-2014 12:54 PM

I like the outer fins actually, more aggressive than the Borla one without going overboard.

ghost86 02-21-2014 03:34 PM

Take my monies.

Team STILLEN 02-21-2014 06:23 PM

Looks awesome! Will this one match up with the factory rear valance (faux diffuser) more smoothly than the T1?

Wonderbar 02-21-2014 06:27 PM

I think the actual model I will go with uses the same shape outer strakes as the center parts. I have OCD about matching things.

Ermagerd now I want to come visit.

Lots of NC love in this thread apparently

enjoi23 02-21-2014 08:11 PM

I was looking for something a little more subtle. The one you have our right now looks huge lol.

That was the purpose behind it! And the purpose behind this one.

Would be down for a meet up, or to watch you work on the prototype/fab stuff. Fascinated by that, and want to learn more about it.

Seriously, if you need a somewhat-capable hand or a test mule, let me know!

On a side note: will this version "work" with the OEM-style diffuser/valence extension? Not dead set on keeping it, but just curious :respekt:

adprokid 02-21-2014 09:19 PM

Stop this slow burn torture, make it already !

It replaces that part

Ok, so this is the final render that I have actually decided to run with. What do you guys think? Attachment 67963

FR-Slide 02-22-2014 11:31 PM

Do you have any reason for the strakes being rounded vs. angled? Aesthetics, or stability, or economy, ground clearance, or anything? Or just, personal preference?

I'm partial to the strakes/fins in the first design, but really that's just nitpicking. Looks good, now hurry up and make them!

People asked for a tame "street" version. That's what I attempted to deliver. The shape for this purpose is aesthetic. I'm excited to get it onto the car and see how it looks in material form. It's getting cut this week and I'll hopefully either have it shipped or will be picking it up when I go to Portland to pick up my Mitsubishi.

userjack6880 02-23-2014 06:16 AM

Your original diffuser was on my list of things to get, but that was removed. Why? Because of this. I wanted something functional, and was able to overlook aesthetics for said functional piece.

But a functional piece that looks good while doing it? Yes.

Type 2 is now on my list of things to get.

A form the follows function item... that still looks good is a always an epic win in my book!!

Sooo.... take my money now........ lol

Yep, perfect!
Ohh and the fins don't need to be rounded if that impacts functionality. The main thing for me was that the design is smaller than the BRC (because race car) version so it does not look so out of place on a street car.

OURO3OROS 02-23-2014 10:56 AM

Is this the lower profile, daily driver model?

I have an odd request, but would you mind taking a quick video as you walk up to the car, and circle around the rear?

When I get the actual parts in, sure thing. I have my prototype on the car now but I think it is ugly.

OURO3OROS 02-25-2014 06:31 PM

I can appreciate that. Thanks.

Ugly is better than nothing ;)

I have made it through many lonely nights by that sentence alone. However, my prototype is actually pretty far off from the 'production model'. I have extra rivet lines, its not laser cut, completely different coating, and the vertical strakes are a different shape and much longer.

Are you actually from STILLEN? Out of curiosity, why haven't you guys jumped on the 86 train yet?
