best intake to use with unichip
Plan on doing a unichip on my car and possibly an intake as my only mods to the engine..Im planning on keeping the exhaust stock as well..so is it worthwhile to drop coin on this or is it pointless if I don't plan on upgrading the exhaust
|
You managed to pick the worst ideas. Open flash tablet is vastly superior to Unichip and as of yet no intake out performs the stock one with a drop in filter without ****ing up the maf sensor and air fuel ratios
Oft+modified stock snorkel+drop in filter will safely out perform any intake with Unichip. With hardly any work at all. |
OK so leave it stock and drop a ls1 in it when the warranty runs out was my next choice
|
yeah... unichip is pretty much done for on this platform. way, way better options at this point. and like @FrsDuke said, there's no reason to replace the intake. it'll cause way more headache than it's worth.
really to be honest there's not much point in doing any na mods imho. lots of $ for very little gain compared to any fi setup. |

An intake that deletes the sound generator will give you quieter (in cabin) idles and a more satisfying roar with throttle.
A tune will counteract the "****ing up the maf sensor", won't it? Even the Unichip should do that. That's sort of the whole point of a tune :) |
A header and an oft tune wouldn't be a bad alternative to get a noticeable amount of oomph...aftermarket forced induction just opens up a world of potential issues and drains your wallet...
|
Sure you can fix the maf and afr with a tune. And you will figure out at that point your intake makes zero power or loses power compared to stock. (Generally)

I run the stock box minus the noise generator with a perrin inlet tube and TRD drop in filter :) Also do yourself a favor and get an OFT+OFH. Best 1000$ you can spend on this car. If you plan to stay NA you want this combo. If you have E85 around you its even better! :)
