Automatic-Turbo?

I am sure there are people that have this question, or it has been asked already. Would an automatic transmission be able to hold up to a turbo charged engine? Im looking to boost up to 300WHP. Supercharger is another idea. Mind you this isnt going to happen for a long while, so there may be other FI system out there that will come out with "better" SC

Yes, auto boxes can hold up to 300whp. We've got probably 30+ kits on automatics, ranging from the base 250whp up to 310whp. I'm sure some of the race teams on exotic fuels has gone further than that as well.

"We" is just in relation to our turbo kits that we sell. I don't have numbers from other makers. So out of 150 kits that we've sold, at least 1 in 5, probably more, are automatic.

I don't see how it wouldn't. The stock AT transmission is probably able to hold as much power from the outputshaft of the engine as the MT transmission is. Same motor, same everything else, really.

Unless there's fitment issues with different parts of the exhaust, no reason a turbo kit shouldn't fit and hold just fine if it holds fine on a stock clutch and flywheel on an MT.

The only kit that probably wouldnt fit would be the PTuning kit as it is a low mounted turbo, and i read somewhere on here that the auto box is more bulky making the fit impossible

There are at least 3 auto cars here in the UK that I know of with the AVO turbo kit fitted, all without issues.

I would get a tranny cooler, and keep an eye out for AT upgrade parts (there is a thread floating around with AT upgrades, only one company is doing it atm). Also I changed out the fluid to a high-temp Red Line AT fluid.

Heat kills the tranny, more power, more heat. It may not blow up on you now, but the tranny cooler should increase the longevity of the transmission.

I've been running around the 418rwhp mark for 6 or so months with no issues

No problems on my AVO Kit. theres a guy here in WA who was the first AT Turbo for AVO and if my math is correct then he should have more than 20k on his current kit without any problems

I was actually looking at the full blown turbo. How does the AT hold up on a stage 2?

It it too early to tell but I can see it not being too fun since the stage 2 has a pretty good lag to it.
