It's unfortunate that he is doing shady things. I and a few friends were interested in getting our hands on the turbo kit he is testing for WORKS. He was always pretty good about responding to my questions, until he started changing the release dates and pricing, and then I heard other peoples experiences with him that were very poor.

As far as banning small vendors, please don't :) Just because some guys got overwhelmed and made poor decisions, it shouldn't mean us honest guys should get hurt. I work my butt off 7 days a week, with two jobs and advertise on these forums because there is an awesome community here(with some bad apples) and they deserve good deals and great service!

Doesn't sound like they will but I will second the small vendor side of this. I for one am supportive of small businesses on forums as this is where many can get their start (like yourself). You are an enthusiast with a skill set that you are using to help a community while helping build a name for yourself. Nothing wrong with that. With great mods like Dave-ROR and support from Hachi who is more than willing to listen it appears I don't think the site will severely suffer. There are always going to be a few bad apples, but we can't go cutting down every tree because of it.

Do research. Ask for feedback. If there isn't a lot spend some time talking to them and pay by CC so you have recourse. If you are that worried wait for others to try them out. There will always be some. I am sorry to those that have been burned as I have been in your position (not with 86 Industries or even on this site), but let's not go stopping entrepreneurs. Just monitor it.

^ What was your payment method and when did you order? I ordered on 1/28 and I swear he never charged my credit card...

zinzan 02-20-2014 05:16 PM

Very disappointing. I bought a license plate frame and GrimmSpeed hood struts on Feb. 1, credit card charged on Feb. 4. I followed up with 86 Industries a couple days later, looking for shipping confirmation, and JR replied that the struts would get sent separately from GrimmSpeed, but the frame would go out that day. A few days later (Feb. 11), I sent him and email and he gave me a tracking number for the frame. He also said he confirmed with GrimmSpeed that the struts had been sent, and he would get me the tracking number.

Nothing but silence from JR since the 11th.

I did receive the plate frame two days ago. Irrelevant to this story, but the frame was unusable for me, as it obscured my issuing county and plate renewal year. It was also pretty flimsy plastic. So $15 down the drain, but at least I was sent the product I paid for.

Was really looking forward to the struts, though, and after no replies from JR for the past 9 days, I contacted GrimmSpeed. GS said they are unfamiliar with 86 Industries, though they (86 Ind) could be getting the parts through another reseller, but GS had definitely not shipped any hood struts to me and advised me to dispute the credit card charge ASAP and reorder through them or one of their recommended resellers.

So, that's what I did. I've reordered through rallysportdirect.

I paid with a debit card (I'm a fool). I should have used PayPal but I do not believe he offered it SMDH

also I apologize for the video; I took it down due to respect for the NorCal community :)

THANK YOU!

In short; your video consisted of two separate matters that were as far apart in relation as a pebble is to a mountain. One of those, I helped create and support - WE are that mountain here. The other, well it just keeps tumbling tumbling down. Gravity sucks don't it.

Totally understandable. We are a community even if we are across the country.

Together we stand, divided we fall.

Ugh. Seriously? I know he was making profit off of some of the events, and I called him out on it on the last one and the prices for adjusted as we shifted to a bit more of a volunteer status. I also didn't like his attitude at times, but I wanted the best for him despite all of that. When you have problems with people you offer constructive criticisms, and then you work together to become stronger. If he really was in over his head in sure if he asked any of us we would have tried to help him out. Community is about trying to help one another, not throwing each other under the bus.

Based on the rules of the forums and issues people had that continued to go unresolved the ban is likely justified. I just hope he can make it all right, learn from this and grow to make a stronger return.

Some users have said his site went down, just FYI in case people are waiting for their GB.

Yup his site is 100% down...smh

CamryDS 02-27-2014 06:22 PM

I luckily got out and didn't end up paying for much. I lost nothing because, thank god, my bank gave me back the money. I went to the bbq thing he held and when a friend of mine didn't show up -- he explained everything to me. that's when I just boycotted him and every attempt he tried to make money.

Hell I don't even remember what i tried to buy, lots of complaints on all his group buys and lots of complaints on all his sales items. -- missed that bullet and I feel blessed I did.

I bought the "fake winjets" in the group buy. It only took a couple days to receive the lights after the group buy finished. I don't know how to tell if they are fake or not BUT the packaging looks legit and the lights look legit. Also, the lights work awesome, the fitment is awesome and surprisingly the light output/projector in my opinion is better than stock! Every time I see these threads about 86industries I breathe a sigh of relief that my transaction seemed so quick and smooth! Sorry to hear of all the bad experiences! I'm not sure how an ebay add proves that the winjets 86 ind was selling were fake? I think I'd like to see the packaging of the winjets from another dealer before I make any conclusions. Anyone that has bought from another dealer want to chime in with unboxing pictures?

I always found it frustrating how he didn't offer paypal. I was part of the group buy when he was taking deposits for the clear "toms" tail lights but that fell through and he was offering two options - get refunded or put the deposit towards original toms and pay the difference. I immediately sent him a PM asking for refund. After not hearing from him after a month I noticed that he made a thread with everybody's name that made a deposit. I think if you asked for a refund he put your name blue or if you wanted the original toms he put red. My name as well as a few others were black which means he never got a respond from us. What really bothered me was, if he didn't get a respond, why the hell doesn't he contact us asking what we want to do?! It's almost as he wanted us to forget and just let him keep the money. I started talking to him through PM and he told me his bank had already processed the refund and that I should be getting it by this day. When the day came I didn't get the money. This happened a couple times! I started getting frustrated so I was like hey, I have PayPal, just send me the money through paypal. His response was that he didn't have PayPal, and that he will have a friend send me the money if the bank doesn't come through. Who the hell doesn't have at least a personal PayPal account if you do business on the internet or if you make lots of purchases online? I don't understand! I got my refund after a few more weeks of waiting. I would never do business with him after that. Just thinking about it makes me frustrated.

Has anyone been able to get a hold of this shyster? I ordered from him Feb. 07, and I haven't received my order. I emailed him and tried calling, but no response.

You won't receive it... Just file a claim through your bank. He's gone, so is his shady self-employed "business"...

It has come to my attention the 86-zn6.com is back up and running, so as President of the Norcal Owners Club (NOC) I would like to post the following statement:

JR (aka 86-ZN6.com and 86Industries) is not currently affiliated with the NOC in any way. Proceeds from NOC merchandise purchased from him do not benefit the club in any way and go entirely to his business. We are attempting to have all NOC merchandise removed from his website at this time, but have been unable to as of this moment. New club merchandise is in the works and will be sold/distributed by current board members (@PMok @MyRx, @BunnyRZed, @NorCalGirl, and me) or our clearly assigned designees, of which 86-ZN6.com is not and will not be at any foreseeable point in the future. Please be aware that you are not supporting the club with these transactions and we as a board are working to get new club merchandise available to you as soon as possible.

PMok 03-20-2014 09:01 PM

Hi, I’m PMok, cofounder of NorCal 86DRIVE. We’re a non-profit, community oriented car and driving club for the NorCal community. Hopefully many of you have met me or been to our website, or joined us on one of our drives.

User 86_ZN6, also known as 86 Industries, as a sponsoring vendor on these forums, previously partnered with 86DRIVE to offer t-shirts and decals bearing the 86DRIVE logo and name, as a means of fundraising for our club. Many local members purchased t-shirts and decals through his business in order to support our club, and for that we are very grateful.

Unfortunately, there have been issues with 86_ZN6’s business dealings. He has subsequently been banned from the FT86Club forums and ceased all contact with his customers, leaving many of them to file chargebacks to their banks and credit cards due to unfulfilled orders. For a time his online storefront website was removed and he apparently ceased all business activity.

However, we have noted that recently his website has come back online. He seems to have removed most if not all of his contact information from the site but the storefront is active as far as I can tell. So it appears that the store is operational and visitors can make purchases from it.

86DRIVE has, in the interests of preserving its own reputation and goodwill, disassociated itself from 86_ZN6 or 86 Industries. We have sent him written notice that our limited license to use the 86DRIVE logo and name has been revoked and asked him to remove all mention of 86DRIVE from his storefront. To date we have not received any response from him. So his storefront continues to assert that he is an authorized dealer for various brands and manufacturers, including 86DRIVE, and his store may be offering things like t-shirts, decals and hoodies for sale bearing the 86DRIVE name and logo.

This is simply a public notice to any potential shoppers at the 86_ZN6 site. The operator of that site does not have permission to use our name or logo, nor to sell any products bearing our name or logo. Any purchase of such products will not benefit the 86DRIVE non-profit organization and so we discourage anyone from purchasing such products through that site. Please don’t be misled. If you have any questions about 86DRIVE or the authenticity of any 86DRIVE merchandise, please feel free to contact me at info @ 86drive . com.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your continued support.

Thanks for clarify. I am totally cold feeted with the group after the last year never receive my initial T shirt order. The same story here...send.a payment...never get it...he said lost in the mail... End up waiting longer and longer and decided to ask for refund....never see refund back and finally file a claim with my bank.

Rachey's FR-S 03-21-2014 03:56 PM

Ugh! This is such a great community to be a part of and it sucks to see crap like this happen.

I shall buy from reputable people / shops ;)

The Racers Line 03-21-2014 05:36 PM

It really sucks that a community member did shit like this.

I'm not sure if I'm more mad about that, or the fact he has a prototype Works turbo kit that I was very interested in. And now I have no one to ask about it.

I am really sorry to hear that Chris, we have missed seeing you at the drives and meets. The new leadership is painfully aware of the damage that's already been caused to the community and is doing what it can to regain the trust of the membership. Hopefully you'll see the changes are positive ones, and hope to see you out on some of the drives again this summer.

Just contact Pete at works directly.

I had been dropping in to the shop on regular basis. But have too busy lately. It was a slow process. At one point we had plans to use my girlfriends FRS as a 2nd guinea pig car.
It seemed like JR had concerns about his car not getting done if we got involved and I haven't heard crap about the process in months.

I will, but I know he is very busy. I had just heard that the kit was having its issues. Not sure if it was tuning or hardware related. But it did look very good at the SF autoshow.

The little I know. It seems to be car owner issues more than development. :) I plan on dropping by for the lemons race and will drop by works as well.

Looks like 86 Industries is down again. He could be getting another domain name perhaps?
