FRS turn signal mods

I want to mod my turn signal to only turn on (and blink) when I use them for turn signals.

I want them always off at other times. Anyone know how this is done?

I think the front turn signal bulbs are 7444NA. You can put a 7440NA bulb in its place and it will function as just a turn signal. This is what I did when I added the fog lamps.

We've done this for many customers and that includes our own FR-S project car. We have a few options for front turn signals, stage 1 and stage 2 (brightness) and they are fully compatible (plug and play install).

Send us a PM or email us if you are interested

Can anyone confirm that the 7440NA bulb is the bulb I need for this mod?

yup, you need a pair of 7440 bulbs (i don't know what NA is?). i've done this along with a number of people here. i recommend chrome ones as they look nicer: http://www.hidlightsusa.com/shopping...s&sc=7440/7443

so the chrome is just for the clean stealth white look with them turned off, but they light up yellow/orange when blinking?

So it makes the light not light up when the headlights are on? Just blinks for turn signal and that's it?

Basically the FRS uses 7443 (dual filament) in the front turn signals and 7440 (single filament) in the rear turn signals. 7443 is used in the front because the front signals also act as parking lights. By putting 7440 in the front, the connection for the parking light function no longer exists because that second filament isn't there to complete it so the bulb will only turn on for the turn signal.

Huge thanks to all of the above posts. So simple but so essential.

I'm installing Tom's, so just grab the 7440 bulb from the stock tails, and install it up front. This is really going to clean up the lighting situation.

Also be aware that this may be technically illegal (as it is in NY) but I haven't had any issues and it's been probably over a year now

are the chrome bulbs less bright then oem?

any good brands for quality and brightness?

Depin the green wire on the harness. It will only be turn signals after doing so.

And no need to change bulbs.
