Clear vinyl bra

Thinking of trying 3M clear bumper bra for protection. Anyone try any of the ones available?

Personally I haven't, but many folks over on the Miata forum swear by them.

3 M seems to be the product of choice.

I have my front bumper, hood, and both fenders done. Awesome stuff!

CrazyClover 02-15-2014 12:20 AM

I have it all on mine as well. But someone just backed into it so I guess I'll have to get it redone.

I have it on bumper, hood, fenders and 2 rear mirrors. Great protection!

There are much better films today than 3M. I prefer Xpel Ultimate but Sunktek and Avery are nice too. 3M Scotchgard and Ventureshield were the best 5 years ago but have been surpassed.

I've been using the 3M films on my cars for about 15 years now. My STi has a 3M treatment that is going on 9 years old and is still showing no signs of yellowing. It has become hazy (for lack of a better word) from all the scratches it has accumulated over the years though.

For my FR-S I have the Xpel Ultimate film. It's a thinner film than the 3M versions so it's even less noticeable than the 3M and it has self healing capabilities to repair small scratches. It gets great reviews and with it's self healing abilities I expect it to remain clear for it's life.

I highly recommend using a clear bra if you want some paint protection.

Clear Bra

The 3m comes in a front bumper piece & instl kit for FRS. Does xpel come same way for FRS? One piece? Thanks everyone for all the good info..

Got my DIY 3m kit from invisible mask, installed myself with no problem. I would recommend extra set of hands installing front bra.

How does washing and waxing work with this kind of a product?

Mine had a clear bra installed already when I took delivery. Honestly, I'd rather take the car without the bra. Mine has wax on the edge of the film, which leaves behind like a feint white line.

Use a Q-tip with some rubbing alcohol to clean the wax off the edge. Should work like a charm

I do my cars before i even drive them. I wrap the whole hood, fender, front bumper, rockers ( not on the FR-S) cause of stone chip), mirrors, a-pillars, and rear bumper around trunk opening. I do it myself so I wrap the edges so there is no line for the wax to get caught on.

I would recommend the stuff to ANYONE with a new car. Makes cleaning bugs off super easy.

I personally use Clearshield by Solargaurd.
