max tire size (height)

hey guys. i want to get some more ground clearance for my brz. right now i have 245/45/17 tires. i want a bigger side wall (taller tire)....

whats the largest tire (height not width) i can fit on a brz with a stock suspension?

sshole 02-14-2014 12:33 PM

You know you're screwing up your speedometer and odometer readings by upsizing your tires?

funbeatsfast 02-14-2014 01:07 PM

Not that I recommend it, but I had 245/50R17 snow tires on for a week. They're about 26.3", more than an inch and a half taller than stock. Fit fine, no rubbing with stock suspension. Gearing sucked, turn in in sucked, speedo was wrong. I wouldn't pay to put tires that size on my FR-S, and probably wouldn't do it again even with freebies.

If you want more sidewall, why not go to a 16"?

yes if it was just slap them on and go. but i had my ecu adjusted for a bigger tire. so it reads correctly for 245/45/17 (stock is much smaller). with a bigger tire i will only be off by a hair.

ok that is very helpful. thank you. i wasnt sure if that would fit.

Do you think an even taller tire would fit? or was yours super close?

Curious to know who "adjusted" your ECU and with what tool?

yea, i had the speedo adjusted for 245/45 tires.

most of all the gearing. if your car is putting out the stock 200hp or ~150whp i wouldnt recommend a tall tire like this either. but im not stock. full bolt-on's and ecutek tune. also light weight rims. so my car is quick enough that the stretched out gears are actually a bonus for me. i stay with my boys sti while running 245/45 tires.

ecutek tune prime motoring nj

NYCsubaruBRZ 02-14-2014 02:01 PM

the speedo wasnt that far off anyway before the tune.
unless your doing 100mph which in that case does it really matter how fast your going?

my speedo only went up to 120mph on my explorer and the stock ecu wouldnt let you go past 110mph. although it would go faster than that even when it was stock. but i had lots of goodies in that exploder and ive had the speedometer pegged as far as it could go. idk what top speed ive hit in that truck but does it really matter?

i went to 225/50/17 and it gave me that little bit of ground clearance i needed to get over concrete parking stops (lot of tight spots to park in down town dallas :P) car handles great... speedo is a bit off but i never drive the speed limit anyways... nobody does here lol....

so im getting new winter tires tommorow. im getting the largest diameter tire possible w/ a small contact patch. it should be better than the shitty primacys and should give me some height/ground clearance. ill post pics soon when there on the brz.

NYCsubaruBRZ 02-16-2014 05:52 PM

is there any cheap way to lift the car besides a bigger diameter tire?
