If this is true, which looks like it, I might decide to delay on selling my BRZ to get a 2015 WRX STI. I already put my deposit down for the new STI but the above news is sooo juicy, my performance hunger is testing me :bonk:

A higher power version of the BRZ is inevitable (anyone who thinks otherwise is silly), particularly as other manufacturers are warming up their competitors.

He didn't drive the STi version of the BRZ, he drove the tS version.

Althought it is entirely possible an STi version is coming, don't believe anything from torque news they seem to make shit up all the time.

Read / translate the real story from Subaru, don't read the stupid BS made up by Torque News who can't even tell the diff. between a trim and something aftermarket.

People obsessed with more power from the factory should just buy an Impreza WRX STI and call it a day.

Heh, even if this were true I wouldn't care since by then used 997's may be down into the low-to-mid $30k range. Pretty sure that'll be my next car since it ticks the token rear seats box of the BRZ while also being stonking fun to drive and having a much nicer engine.

If I were of a mind to get that new STi, I'd stick with that plan. I must say, that new STi does look tempting, doesn't it? I fancy the Launch Edition. Alas, it'll probably run around $40,000.

Anyway, I'd be surprised to see a BRZ STi version with more than 240 HP, normally aspirated. They said they will not put a turbo in it, and I believe them. They effectively declared, "If you want a turbo car, we already have a turbo car for you, the WRX STi."

They MIGHT eek 125 HP/Liter out of the FA20 normally aspirated engine, but even that would surprise me. You're in Porsche GT3 territory there and making it durable, reliable, and financially sound is expensive. This car was designed to be inexpensive fun with a terrific ratio of performance to cost. If they actually want to build a Porsche competitor, I'd think they'll start over and build yet a different car.

And the BRZ STi may not be nearly so street friendly as our current BRZ/FR-S; this current car is near my limit of what's tolerable traversing our decaying infrastructure as it is.

Cars that beat me up on rough roads ... get "old" really fast.

I confess, I have been looking at the new Caterham. My notion is that I'd wear a helmet and treat it like a motorcycle. It would just be a toy for fun drives in the country, of course. I don't picture surviving a crash in it. :D

I've been told a Lotus is an insanely fun track toy that you can drive to and from the track, but that you're nuts to want to daily it.

And, as one wit put it, getting in and out of an Elise is a Cirque du Soleil moment! ;)

I was seriously considering DDing an Elise for a while, but yeah, I'm insane. The part where it doesn't have room for anything bigger than a duffle bag in the back and that anything you do put back there literally gets cooked by the engine heat kind of made it unrealistic, unfortunately. Even I sometimes need to move things bigger than a duffle :(

There are still times when I second-guess that decision though-- after all, if there's ANY time in your life when you could get away with DDing an Elise, it's when you're young and flexible... literally flexible.

I fucking love the Elise though... even just driving down the highway, if you put the roof on you feel like you're driving an LMP car or something... you get over ~70mph and the aero starts to work a bit, the ride smooths out, the painted lines and reflectors on the highway seem like they're flying by at incredible speeds (since you're about an inch off the ground) and it's loud and you've got this tiny racecar wheel in your hands... it's awesome.

Maybe I'll put it this way: I would totally DD a Lotus IF I could afford to keep a Focus ST or GTI around for the times I needed to move more than one person or a duffle bag. Those times don't come around very often, but when they do you really do need a second car.

What about the Evora? It's 2+2, 3.5L mid engine V6, too and decent fuel economy to boot.

I too considered an Elise as a DD. Then the BRZ came out.

If the STI is as track focused as an Elise, you guys are right. It might too harsh as a DD. I rode in one and gosh, it sucked as a DD.

Still, it's nice STI is really focused on enthusiasts.
