2,000-3,500k bogging power brapp noise.

Hey Guys,

Having an issue with my 86 and was hoping someone could chime in on what the issue could be. I first had the issue yesterday where I was in 3rd gear around 2.5k rpm and accelerated part throttle and the car felt like its bogging power wise also sounds weird. Best way to describe is brapp brapp brapp up to 3-3.5k rpm.

The only way I can replicate the issue is either from 1st or 2nd gear setting off as slow as possible and then WOT. Starts around 2.2k rpm and goes through to 3.5k rpm and feels like its bogging not just the usual torque dip.

I took a couple of videos which you find below but its hard to hear it on video. Mod’s wise just a track pipe and other than that stock.

Would really appreciate any feedback, I searched my A** off and could find anyone else with the same sound/issue.

Idk can't really hear what your talking about. How many miles you have on it?

RevoG 02-13-2014 04:17 AM

Just had a drive in the car and my best guess would be injector failure.

Well, I can't hear or see anything that indicates bogging .....:iono:

Have you changed type (brand) of gas lately ... ??

Very possible its bad gas, espeically in a car with 12.5:1 compression. See what happens with your next fill up, and use a different station. As a side note I don't hear anything strange, but its hard to tell in a video

Yep, I agree ..... could be some funky gas. At least try a different pump, if your choise of stations is limited.

Try a can of quality dry gas (ethyl alcohol). It might not solve the bogging issue, but it is a very cheap way to find out if it may be bad gas.

Updated video much more noticeable.

I have also filled up this morning different station will super 95 so it wasn't a case of bad gas.

Cheers!

1.18sec you notice the change in noise around 2.5k

Burrcold 02-16-2014 03:18 AM

I don't hear anything.

I have a similar thing happening. I don't think it's a fuel quality issue in my case.
I see that something is also happening for you right around 4500-5000 rpm like VTEC kicked in yo...

For me, it developed last spring and I had my plugs changed. It made a difference but it didn't go away entirely. I will add that I had some issues with a previous tune, then switched to another tuner and changed over to E85. It was almost imperceptible but then noticed it had become more pronounced when I switched back to pumpgas for the winter, and ultimately storage.
My car is garaged for the winter, but I do plan on revisiting this once spring hits.

I request you put headphones on and listen, please tell me someone can actually hear it this time..

Not on the first rev, the second one after the air dump from the truck that passed me.

Cheers!

How long have you had the track pipe on your car? The AVCS on these cars kicks in somewhere between 3500 to 4000 rpms also.
