Will this void warranty?

Invidia n1 catback with invidia catless front pipe. Just curious before I buy it if it will void warranty and will it have any problems passing inspection?

replace the words "void warranty" with "warranty coverage denied"

I can't help you on state inspection, but going with aftermarket parts may provide problems later on with engine codes (O2 sensor, for example) and also any type of header defect.

Best is for you to build a relationship with a Subaru service adviser first before you ask us.

Or: no it won't void warranty. But you may get problems with warranty service depending on above said relationship.

Removing a cat is technically illegal as it's removing an emissions device. In other words, it MIGHT not pass an inspection.

sick of seeing this topic again and over again on every car forum

The Toyota service worker told me that unless your check engine lights comes on or you have any issue that is related or involves with an exhaust then yes it is voided. If you have a condensated taillights or window issues or etc, your warranty will not be void. Also you can still get free oil changes with an exhaust.

Such clarity.

If you remove the CAT and you're in a CARB State, you won't pass inspection.

I hope you're realizing that CARB stands for California Air Resources Board and the OP is in New York...

Some states don't have emissions check, and most states allow 4-6 years of smog exemption from first date of new car ownership.

STOP USING THE WORD VOID. You don't lose warranty coverage, you may get DENIED warranty claims and have to pay out of pocket.

No one can void your warranty, the warranty is provided as part of the CAR and not individual parts. Unless you fly your car off the face of the moon tomorrow, you'll still have warranty even if you mod everything on the car except the sheet metal.

I'm just using the word that the service guy told me. I am pretty sure he meant denied. But if your butt hurt about it, put some ice in your anal.

Well since 2009... some states adopted CARB Standards...

In addition, several other U.S. states also choose to follow the CARB standards, so their rulemaking has broader implications within the U.S. How Stuff Works: CARB lists 16 other states adopting CARB rules as of mid-2009
Maybe they have something similar in NY... :iono:

I could care less about what the service guy said, I'm just trying to get people to use the right terminology.

If you think (or assume) the warranty is void, you might as well consider it void. But for the rest of us, even if I mod the crap out of the car and blow the engine, I'm still entitled to warranty coverage on applicable parts of my car that isn't modified.

The two words have completely different meanings, and in the context of Subaru and Toyota/Scion dealers not providing adequate warranty coverage in legitimate claim cases, this needs to be made clear to the OP.

NY is a CARB standard state. However, it's a smog level standard(tailpipe) and may or may not include a visual.

Not all states have a strict visual inspection element of the smog check (see: AZ, FL), that's what I was getting at.

Well if the car doesn't have a cat... and it's a standard tail pipe smog... I still don't see why the car will pass....

Unless the car already is ultra low emissions and it doesn't even need a cat to pass emissions....? :iono:

OP is asking about state inspection.... some may include a visual inspection of functioning smog equipment, some may not and just could be a simple safety inspection.

Virtually all states following CARB rules have smog-exemption status for first 4-6 years of new car ownership.

So taking off a cat may or may not make a difference depending on state/county laws where you live. To you and me in CA, no smog on the car for 6 years won't make a difference in this case unless you got a modified emissions ticket from a cop.
