So how are the 2014s holding up?
I have had my beloved BRZ for a month and a half and love it. No issues I am glad to say, but how are other 2014s holding up...have you had issues and what are they. What has been improved over the 2013?

Eating themselves and breaking all over the place. Do not buy.

my 14 hasn't had anything like the forums suggest. I had condensation in the tail lamps the second day I owned the car, took pictures but it hasn't come back (and that was October). I have a rattle in the back, I think its the rear deck lid rattle. Nothing serious, no chirps, CELs, rough idles, pinging, blinking lights. nada.
|
I doubt anything was improved for the '14 model year. There are tons of '13 owners (myself included) who have had no issues from day 1 (no CEL, no crickets, no rear deck popping, no rough idle).
I had my dash bubble up in one spot but that's been it. Obviously some rattling here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. |
I think the only "updates" to the '14 models, besides creature comforts and color selection, were HPFP and ECU updates which, at this point, haven't solve the crickets, and most '13s have already been updated with these parts or haven't shown any issues yet.
90% of the early problems were solved by late '13, and was why I put the FR-S back to the top of the list of cars around $25k to get when the chance came up (and did). |
Other than the fact the engine sounds very rattley when it's cold, no issues to report. Damn those fuel pumps are noisy, though.
I still smile everytime I click the unlock button on my keyfab and jump in. F'ing love this car |
I've got crickets
|
Only issue for me is the knocking noise the temps are in the 40's or lower on a cold engine for me.
|
I've had the car over a year (15k miles) and it's had issues, but they aren't big enough for me to care:
-Rough idle a little, but no stalls -Leaking tail lights, eventually bought new gaskets from gasketninja -crickets, who doesn't -window seal rolling -rear deck popping -various rattles This may sound like a lot, but jesus christ they are incredibly minor issues that are blown out or proportion. |
My biggest problem so far, which isn't major, is the cricket noise that everyone talks of. I didn't have it until I put a 94 grade fuel in my car which really amplified the sound but since going back to 91 they have been quiet, though, still there. Obviously not fixed for the 2014s.

I'm really curious to see if any 2014's will have the DI seal failure.
|
I guess I should have said that I did have tail light condensation a while back and rough idle once, but that's it. I feel bad for those who have not been so lucky, but it just shows how much people love these cars that they carry on...
|
I have some frustrations with the head unit: poor sound quality, usability of the GPS & problems with the new Aha function being really flakey. But problems other people had about GPS lock - mine is perfect, and Bluetooth always connects and stays connected (Moto X phone).
I'm at 1800 miles and I occasionally have crickets. No rattles that I haven't been able to hunt down and eliminate. No taillight condensation. No oil leaks etc. I am a little bit concerned that I installed a catch can on the PCV to intake line and expected to trap some oil but instead I see fuel with just a little oil. Overall really good in my opinion for a $30k car! |

Keep in mind, I'm only referring to the crickets, rattles, and condensation type things... the DI seals is a whole 'nother world of mess. Maybe I'm mis-reading you and you were referring to those people who REALLY have had some bad luck, like those who've blown engines on stock cars... idunno. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I'm just sick of stressing out over constantly reading about all these "problems" that the twins have. |
