Ground Control Coilover Problem
 

Installed the ground control coil over sleeves with Eibach springs on my FR-s. Front end was no problem with plenty of adjustment room. The rear, however was riding 1/4 inch higher than stock with the spring seat set as low as it will go. Brought the car to Darin and Chris at West End Alignment for corner balancing and even after several calls to GC we could not figure out why the car was sitting so high. We eventually got the height down to 1/2 inch below stock,by relieving all the suspension component binding but it seems odd that this would be the lowest we could get it. The sleeves extend upward from the spring perch by 3-4 inches. GC offered to send me some 6 inch springs ( existing springs are 7 inches) to rectify the problem, as they said no one else has had this problem, and it appears I assembled the kit properly. I would rather not lose the travel afforded by the 7 inch springs. Any suggestions as to what might be the issue?

I have 375 in front and 400 rear.

Did you measure the height difference between the OEM assembly vs the new one? It's possible that they're pretty close in height. You could try some Stance LCA's which give you another 1" drop without losing your 7" spring. Not very cost effective though.

Most suspension will settle once you drive on it.

Best bet is to install, drive for a day or two. Then go back and make adjustments to ride height as required. Then get wheel alignment.

My teins did a similar thing. Were not all that low in the back, but dropped at least 10mm after I did some driving on them.

The RSR's only settled a few mm.

Wow that sounds stiff, especially for stock shocks. That's 6.7f and 7.16r

How does it ride? Are the dampers able to keep up with those stiff springs? Did GC suggest those rates for you?

I drove the car about 60 miles before getting an alignment. It settled some, but I'm the end we could only get it 5/8 inch lower than stock. I may just bag the GC parts and get a set of Feal coilivers.

Looks great, but the spring rates sound a bit too aggressive on stock dampers.

Keep us posted with your findings/impressions as those springs settle in!

The handling as is, is pretty good. Turn in is much more immediate and high speed cornering is much flatter and stable. Even low speed bumps are smoother and more controlled. Hook up on acceleration is also noticably improved. I Iwas told most people are running 435 in the rear which does seem a bit excessive.

I will be installing a set of these next week, Hope I don't run across this issue as well.

Other people have complained of the same issue on other setups, that ended up being their top hat was installed upside down. Not saying that's the case here, but worth checking.

i had the GC engineers look at photos of the setup and they said it looked correct.

You wouldn't lose any more travel with the 6" springs, than lowering your car further on 7" springs (theoretically speaking). Any further lowering will come at the expense of bump travel, regardless of the spring length used.

Funny too how we have completely opposite problems, as I had to purchase spacers to raise the car to reasonable ride height.
