Road trip preparation?

So I'll be driving down to San Diego this Friday morning and I have some questions about what to check on the frs. So I know that I have to check all fluids like engine oil, coolant ect.. Also check the tire pressure

Since my car only has 10.6k miles I'm not worried about the car breaking down lol

Is there anything else I'm missing? Any tips?

Also, Should I put the blue 3m tape across my front bumper and hood?

change oil and filter. You can tape up if you want, but i just think those people are goons lol.

Is the oil change really necessary? I had it done at 7,001 miles and that was only 2 months ago. I've only driven the car 3,600 miles since then.

I don't think an oil change is necessary if you are following the maintenance schedule. Whenever my wife and I go on long road trips, we usually pack snacks and plenty of water. Find interesting spots to stop and check out. Always better to stop at an interesting place to stretch your legs than a rest area or a gas station. Oh, I also like to keep an actual paper map of the area (let's just say my wife and I were saved by one on a road trip to death valley)

Good tips :w00t:
I don't think I'll be stopping a lot (just for gas) I just want to get there as soon as possible lol

My wife and I drive down to LA periodically and I always check fluids, oil levels and tire pressure. Take some tunes, snacks and a cooler with snacks and water.

Take breaks when you're tired! Drive safely!

bkblitzed 02-13-2014 02:11 AM

in 1 month i drove down to lbc 4-5 times like a year ago in my STi. I changed my oil a lot that month

I go on road trips often in all different cars, sometimes mine, sometimes rentals but I always go through the same procedure.

check tire pressure on all wheels
check major fluids (oil, coolant, etc)
make sure all your lights work
bring food, water, snacks, music, cell phone chargers etc

If you want to take an extra step, you can always carry extra gas, air compressor, tire gauge, fix a flat, and more much more...
