question about gauges

So I have seen in some youtube videos, people starting their car and the tachometer moving all the way to the right, and then falling back to where it should be at idle. my car doesn't do that then I start it. I don't really care if it does or does not do this, I'm just curious why mine is different.

BRZ does it, FRS only sweeps to your set RPM.

For FRS put it in the ON position, not start. Toggle through display until you get to a bunch of zeros. Hold down to set the first number (1000's), then hit once to go to hundreds and set that. Then hit one more time to confirm, leave the buzzer off (its effin annoying). Turn car all the way off, then back to "ON" and it should sweep

is that set rpm the same as the shift light? It just seems like a silly thing to go out of the way to do, but I am curious if there are things the dash can do that I don't know about.

If i understand your question right, the answer's yes. If you have the FRS it will only sweep the RPM's you have set for your shift light. Example; i set my shift light to 7200, it only sweeps to 7200.

Cool, that makes sense.

i kinda like the tach beep.. it means i don't need to look at the gauge cluster to know when i've hit my shift point.. but currently my shift point is set at 3700. once i move it up to 6000, i should have less of that issue..

Why so low, fuel savings?

I'm guessing break-in?

soundman98 02-13-2014 09:41 PM

yep 500 miles on the car now.. i was told it is recommended to keep it below 3700 for break-in until 1,000 miles.. i figure it's mostly a lawyer/cya thing on part of toyabaru, but i figure it can't hurt to at least try to comply with it-- nothing bad can happen by following their rules, except for a lack of fun.
