Automatic FRS Surge in Manual Mode

I noticed that when I'm driving around in the M mode (the mode next to D in automatic), when I downshift into first while I'm braking... The last few moments before I come to a complete stop, the car surges forward again.

Does anyone else ever counter this?

I'm currently at 1300 miles.

Don't downshift to first while braking to a complete stop. The A/T doesn't have a clutch to depress like you would coming to a complete stop on an M/T.

I believe this phenomenon is caused by the TQ converter has locked up while braking at low speeds, until you tell it to downshift?

I've also had this happen in without telling it to downshift while in M. I try and avoid it by not hovering around 15 km/h.

Ohh alright then. So it's not just me.

My understanding of automatic transmissions aren't as clear as a manual transmission

Thanks ! :)

If you want to engine brake, go down through the gears to 2 (as appropriate) but don't drop into 1. Its a little more locked up there, and you get weird surges.

Same thing here. Just don't.

Same experience here. I've found either down shift early +2.5k rpm or very late like ~10mph. In between gives you the surge.
