2014 argento frs down at 1500 miles...

well it happened... i was minding my own business stopped at a red light when some ass coming home from the seahawks maddness, talking on his damn phone, hit me at about 80mph. he would have hit me square but i just happened to look up and see him coming... dumped the clutch slammed on the gas and hooked it to the right just enough to keep myself alive. even though i got partly out of the way he knocked my car about 35-40 feet and up onto the curb he hit me so hard it ripped the front wheels off his car.. like OFF! he was skidding around nose down with no breaks... his front wheels were seriously dragging out the side of the wheel wells and he skidded for about 300ft before coming to a stop...

i just got out of the ER. nothing was gushing blood but i figured it best to get checked out. sprained wrist, back pain, and im crazy sore. feels like i got hit by a truck... or a car going 80mph...

honestly i don't really care. im just glad nobody was seriously hurt. im pissed about my car but cars can be replaced... and somebody is lookin out for me for sure. if i hadn't looked up and seen him he would have hit me dead center.

at least he admitted guilt. even told the cops he was speeding and talking on his phone, and he has full insurance so it looks like ill be getting reimbursed... but how do i go about getting the money for all the aftermarket stuff? ive never dealt with totaling a car thats worth anything.

anyway... figured id share my grief

Touge_ninja 02-06-2014 09:02 AM

Sorry bout the car. Glad your ok.

Alain 02-06-2014 09:12 AM

Sorry for your lost. Happened to me too. Try to get everything aftermarket out of your car. If your insurance doesnt know the value of all the parts you put into your car and it wasnt insured with it. I highly doubt they can do anything about it. But dont quote me on that.

I removed all my aftermarket parts off and replaced them with stocks when I was rear ended.

Glad you are ok. Like you said cars can be replaced.

GTHachiRoku 02-06-2014 09:19 AM

I think it varies state to state. In GA, if it's the other persons fault their insurance has to make you whole. This includes anything that was on your car.

Someone backed up into my WRX many years ago. It destroyed the front lip and caused damage to the side skirts. These were very expensive C-West pieces. I also had the HID JDM lights, aftermarket grille etc. Their insurance company (StateFarm) was very clear from the beginning that they would restore everything to how it was. Cost them a fortune too.

Now, if it was your own insurance that may be different...

Chen 02-06-2014 09:27 AM

I have state farm and they covered everything including my aftermarket stuff without having to pay extra. I think it has to do with the autobody and what they tell the insurance what is needed.

Sounds like your attention saved your life. Kudos!

As a motorcyclist who has been hit twice while stopped at traffic lights, I constantly scan the area around me when in such a vulnerable position. Being in a car is no different.

Glad this driver fessed up. Hope he feels like an ass and it costs him dearly. This collision may cause him to change his driving attitude, but I doubt it. Everyone talks and texts on the road. Perhaps cell phones should be automatically disabled in moving cars.

Jmonty 02-06-2014 11:28 AM

Sucks to hear, could have been worse and now you are safe

ramiram1984 02-06-2014 12:11 PM

Fucking asshole bandwagon fan who hit you. Hope you get everything settled.

Now, I agree with THAT!

Especially people like me ...... if I start talking on a cell phone (hands free or not) while driving, someone may as well put a sheet over my windshield ..... :bonk:

OUCH ....... THAT made a mess of your car for sure .... :(

I hope you are OK and don't suffer any post accident problems.

Looks like you will be getting a new car.

252actual 02-06-2014 05:28 PM

thanks guys. woke up feeling like i got beat with a bat haha. gonna be a rough few days. im fairly certain they will total out the car. not only is the left rear completely crushed but even my drivers seat was pushed forward about half a foot so theres no straightening that out. i remember when i was trying to get out i was like "why is my steering wheel so close to my chest haha. might do a buyback if its totaled but im not sure if the exhaust or wheels are still whole. i wouldn't mind getting my audio system and any wheels that didn't get destroyed but to be honest i cant really remember much about the damage, its kind of a blur... just glad nobody got seriously hurt.

lp87 02-06-2014 05:40 PM

that'll buff out

vividracing 02-06-2014 05:47 PM

Glad you are OK and sorry about the car. But remember you have all of us that will support and help you rebuild.

There are times when it seems appropriate to get a lawyer and fuck someone. This would seem to be one of them.

Mnoland9 02-06-2014 07:37 PM

I can't stress enough what Tromatic said: Get a lawyer. Don't mess around with this. The ass that hit you would have killed somebody less aware. Hidden physical damage creeps up all the time. After you get a crummy settlement it's to late to complain. Get a lawyer involved as soon as you can. Tell your insurance guys that. They can deal with his insurance guys. Take your time getting things settled. Strongly advise you to get a lawyer involved. Someone looking out for you.

Turbo95eg6 02-06-2014 08:47 PM

Holy fuck, 80mph? This is one of those times when you have to say yes, it's just a car and you could've really gotten killed. Glad you're somewhat ok.

rice_classic 02-06-2014 09:05 PM

Holy crap! That was some good thinking and good reflexes to drop the clutch like that to make the most of a unwinnable situation. I'm glad you're OK, but make sure to follow up on the doctors.

It's unlikely but make sure you ask. And ask with some authority, afterall he hit you and his insurance needs to now do their part.

You also have insurance so if his is unable to make you whole, yours should but it should need to. Be aggressive going after his insurance company, don't be timid.

The fact that you have documented medical expenses means you should be using a lawyer to get monetary compensation for this.

At this point you'd get more money for injury than aftermarket parts, but you can throw that in as well. Since their insurance is taking care of it, prepare all receipts of parts on the car (and pictures as backup if any).

Also: find a lawyer willing to take on this case without payment up front. No out of pocket expenses for you and you'd end up with a lot more than you started.

The other driver was dumb enough to admit guilt, now make his insurance pay for his mistake.

Good luck!

If they don't total your car, my thread may be some help.

I'm not sure why the twins keep getting rear ended. I'm not sure if our cars are too low or people just suck at driving.

My theory is that that the twins can stop quicker than 95% of the vehicles behind them ..... that, plus 75% of the drivers aren't payen any attention to what their are doing while driving......:mad0260:

FRSure 02-06-2014 10:26 PM

It amazes me how many people are distracted from using the phone and driving.
You know what baffles me?
People with a phone that put it on the speakerphone and holds their phone near their mouth. (Bad wording) What's the point of speakerphone than?

I feel the same way, I used to sandwich my phone between my chest and the seatbelt, or throw it in my chest pocket in my shirt/jacket if I had to talk on the phone. But generally I'm distracted enough so I hate talking on the phone while driving.

Sitha@ft86club 02-06-2014 11:26 PM

OMGAWD BRO IM SO SORRY ABOUT THIS.
i was in same situation couple months back.
luckly i didnt get totaled.

i went into a ditch yesterday morning. luckly no damage! thank the lawd
so if that makes you feel any better

torqdork 02-06-2014 11:59 PM

Brutal. So sorry for your loss. I'd say glad you're OK but it doesn't sound like it's guaranteed yet.

Like others said, lawyer up. And don't even speak with the other driver's insurance company any longer, nothing good can come of it. Their interests are the opposite of yours.

Take care.

252actual 02-07-2014 12:30 AM

thanks guys. im doing ok but damn am i sore. im kind of worried about my back but it could just be muscle soreness who knows. im seriously considering the lawyer thing. anyone have any good recommendations for one that i can trust here in seattle?

thanks again for the support.

j2digit 02-07-2014 12:46 AM

thank god you're ok, it could've been way worse.....god is watching for you.

juliog 02-07-2014 01:12 AM

Wow they weren't kidding when they said id be most sore 2 or 3 days in.... and Ive gotta get my spine checked out now too. lots of pressure in my hip and lower disks... im a bit freaked out... here's another pic from the other night though, its blurry but it If there's any doubt about how fast this guy was going when he hit me, that's how far his car skidded before it finally stopped... If you can't tell. That's his tail lights in the upper left....

Tromatic 02-07-2014 07:31 PM

I had a fairly "gentle" MC crash years ago. A car merged into me and down I went. Slow speed. My knee was fucked from the start, or so I thought, but that was it. Two days later I could not move my neck, at all. I needed help just to roll over in bed for a week.

Again, I hate lawyers and the expense they cause everyone, but this ass admitted his guilt, and if you had not seen him this would have been an RIP thread. Fuck that clown, make it hurt.
