The only BMW I've driven is a BMW E36 M3... that clutch was stiff as hell. But back onto handling... the FRS is hands down better than THAT BMW.

I came straight from an E46 3 series sedan to the BRZ, and the handling is pretty on par. I haven't pushed either car to the absolute limit on AutoX or track, though, so I can only speak for "spirited" driving on twisty back roads.

The BMW does feel a little bit more planted and solid due to the heavier weight and wider tires (I had the sport package 225/45/17), but the BRZ makes up for that with nimbleness.

how about both m3 and m5? what do you think??

I'd argue a stock FRS is going to handle better than any stock Bimmer.

Here is my theory on what went down. Your friends are arguing that BMW handles better than your FR-S and your looking for some information to throw down as they say. The problem is even if the FR-S does infact handle better, it seems you've gotten yourself in a case of the typical BMW fanboys, of whom praise the M3/M5 and holy jizz batman the new M4 without ever driving or being able to own one. You're never going to win this argument, you'd be better of spending your time driving your FR-S and having some fun.

The theory above does not reflect the views and opinions of all members of this forum and are strictly my own. I could be totally wrong in what I sensed so do not take offence to anything I said. Cheers

I had an instructor at the track once whose car was a lightly modded E36 M3 (coilovers, BBK, tires). He was having some car issues, so I offered to let him take my FR-S for one of his run sessions while I rode along. I asked him what he thought and he said he was really impressed with the handling, and thought the FR-S felt much lighter and more balanced than his car. He was actually having so much fun he "apologized" that he was going to miss pit-out and go for more laps. I told him I didn't mind, as his car was down and it looked like he was enjoying himself.

I've ridden in his and a number of other E36 M3s at the track, and I agree with his impressions. The FR-S definitely feels lighter and more nimble, as if its ready to change direction anytime. The E36 is heavier and will take time to roll over, but eventually settles into a nice stance as you throw it into a corner. I was actually really impressed how well the E36 handles, but it can't completely hide its weight and CG height, especially out on the track.

I would say that yes, the FR-S does handle better than a BMW X5.

My brothers 1 3 and 5 series bmws all feel like boats to me compared to my 86.. and are slower until you go above the 25i engines.

Yes, the FRS handles better than any BMW.

I'd argue that for the average driver not pushing it to the limit the BMWs handle better. They feel much more planted with the additional weight and wider track. But if you are looking to have fun and you put better tires on the FRS/BRZ it will indeed carry more entry and exit speed into and out of the corners.

Just my 2 sense after driving several e46 BMW (All 3 Series, 1 E90 M3).
