My car registration is due in 4 days. FRS by June. Help.

The registration on my 370z is due in 4 days. I don't think I will own the car come June. What do I do? Pay it and basically throw $230 away, or take my chance to make it through the month?

Don't waste it, you will have a good grace period don't worry.

From my understanding California does not have a grace period. If I get pulled over and ticketed, is the worst thing that can happen I go to court in a couple months and show proof that I do not own the car anymore ?

CA traffic courts scare me.

IIRC, VA and NY would refund you the prorated amount on the registration if you were to sell the vehicle. Maybe look into that?

Or just get a Huffy.

Just went through this myself, paid the "birthday tax" on my van and my motorcyle in March. Van died a hard death in April and I sold the bike in May. Georgia does not refund ad-valorem tax.

Fortunately, they are phasing out the tax on vehicles. You pay once, and you're good. Unfortunately, they'll now start collecting it on used vehicles between private sellers.

I ended up going to AAA today and just renewing it. I work by LAX, and there are cops on every corner. There's no way I would have gotten away with it. Sucks I just kissed $230 for nothing :(

The hassle that would comefeom a ticket didn't seem worth it.

I'm fairly certain that you can transfer your registration for the new car at a pretty nominal fee. That's how it worked for me, but I'm not in California.

I forgot to pay for the tab last month, and I was pulled over. :(
The ticket charges me more than the amount I have to pay for the tab. Lesson learned. If I were you, I would pay for registration fee now to prevent something bad from happening.

That's how it works here too, so it's not really a waste of money here. I just renewed mine as well and my BRZ will be here soon...

Here you can transfer your registration, I would hope it's the same in your state.
