1996 Corolla P0770 Code

Hey guys,

My Corolla is giving me an error code of P0770, Shift Solenoid E malfunctiion, which is failing me on emissions. I am having no drivability issues whatsoever. I took the car to a transmission shop to see what the issue is, and now they are telling me that the transmission requires a full rebuild. I find this somewhat hard to believe given the fact that there is no noticable difference in the way the car drives or shifts. I was wondering if anyone else on the boards had a similar issue and knows if a rebuild is necesary.

Thanks

the ecu is not reading any feed to the high or low solenoid its missing the ground or power feed, you just need to change the electrical feed no need for a rebuild, its the 2 wires black & red attached to it.

Is this something I'd be able to do just by putting the car up on jack stands?

you can, it'll be easy if you have a tranny jack also
