spilled coffe on seat
 

So, I was one of the lucky ones to be in Atlanta last week during the whole snow and ice debacle. Some jerk nearly hit me and I ended up spilling coffee all over my passenger side seat to avoid him. Now my FRS smells like caramel mocha and it's driving me crazy. I wiped it up as much as I could with a wet cloth after it happened, but I know it's obviously soaked in to the seat. What's the best way to go about getting it totally clean?

Simple green diluted to desired strength.

Best reason to drink black coffee, you spill it and you won't get a spoiled milk smell!

I had an egg roll spill that made my car smell like chinese food, the turtle wax interior cleaner with oxy clean worked great removing the smell and most of the stain, I would recommend using a softer brush or towel for it though as the head on the cleaner is a little too rough for a simple job.

steam or hot water extractor

Using a carpet cleaner with the hose attachment would work best after getting the seat nice and soaked with a really diluted laundry detergent (10-1 water/detergent as above have mentioned). Just soak the crusty spots until they're soft, then suck it out with the vac. That's how the pros do it when you get a full detail job.

You don't need some pro-sized equipment, either. Just get a Spot Bot or something similar. We've used one to clean household pet stains, spills, and car interiors. http://www.bissell.com/spotbot-pet/?...e%20spot%20bot

Thanks for the tips. I think I'm going to rent a rug doctor and clean it myself. No point in paying for a full detail job on a 4 month old car.

So, I ended up having a professional detailer come out and clean my seat. He used a steam cleaner on it twice and even used an ozone machine. It definitely reduced the odor significantly, but there's still a faint smell of caramel mocha coffee on the bottom cushion. :( I'm pretty OCD about my interior and this is starting to drive me crazy. Is there anything else I can do?

Have you looked to see how hard it would be to remove the cover? If you do that, you could air out the cushion better and maybe get it cleaner.
This is why there is no food or beverage consumption allowed in my car. The only exception is bottled water.

Have you taken the cloth off the foam? If all fails you can just buy another bottom assembly, I believe it's around $400. At least you'll know it's brand new.

No, I haven't taken the cloth off the foam. Honestly, I didn't even know that was possible. I'll have to look into doing that. Is it very difficult?

How much did you pay the detailer?? Hopefully it wasn't by the hundreads, might as well buy another seat on this forumn haha
