Stroke saving, room giving front camber plates please.

We have many fine options for suspension, now we have some nice camber plates. We also now have rear top hats from @ Robispec and @Raceseng that give you 2" more stroke allowing you to run the car lower while maintaining useable stroke which is great. However aside from non raising plates like HVT and Ground control we don't have any front camber plate that's been designed to get more stroke etc up front.

I feel obviously aside from gaining stroke this would benifit folks who wish to run (brand x) coilover that may not pyhsically have enough range to be as low as the customer would like. Maybe there are reasons this has not been done? I am not certain.

Thoughts on this? I'd sure like to see one of the great makers out there come out with something like this.

I haven't looked close enough, but there might be clearance issues with the hood, or possible interference issues with the hole through the strut tower if you try to raise the upper spring seat higher?

I think to gain any useful stroke you're looking at the spring seat being level, or above, the top of the strut tower, so it would have to run through the opening without binding at all.

Oh yes we do....

From RaceComp Engineering's Facebook page last night. I am in love!!

Huh? I thought GC front plates do give you more stroke?? (correct me if I'm wrong).

Btw: do there front and rear stroke-giving/adding plates lower the car too? (from a geometry standpoint) ...ie: if you installed these plates on bone stock oem suspension..would it lower it? I would think/guess so; but just want to make sure.

Numbers/length of added stroke would be nice to know per company's plates.

These type of plates on a totally stock car (if they fit) would lower the car. You'd have the same amount of bump travel, but the car would be lower. Pretty cool.

Put them on a car with coilovers and the car gets lowered. But then you raise it up to where it was before and now you have more bump travel then you did at that ride height before the plates were added. So for a given ride height, you have more bump travel.

Same total stroke, you're just trading droop travel for bump, which is usually a good thing to do. :)

IIRC from the Impreza, these should lower by about 3/8"? Also, is there any caster built into them?

Correct, about 3/8th of an inch of lowering. :)

No extra caster for our plates.

Will these have different recieving ends for different coils? Ie: Tarmac, KW, and what I'm still looking at "Ohlins"? Ohlins are one of those that suffer from only going so low. With your new plates up front and stance LCA in back I see a lot of possibilities here.

I looked at FB these were not being discussed as a BRZ/FRS release item however so when's eta on those?

Racecomp Engineering 01-31-2014 05:17 PM

GD chassis Impreza fitment is same as BRZ/FR-S for front mounts. We'd like to get them on a local car for some pics.

You would reuse the upper spring perch from the coilovers and these would work fine.

Excellent, a few things to sort out and I will be all over these. If I use these with my existing KWs it would still be a big plus, I've never bottomed out but having more stroke and getting things within an optimum range is a win win, thanks for bringing these out!

I know we were discussing this a while back, but after careful consideration I don't think the lack of extra range in the rear of the Ohlins (or even the fronts) makes a huge difference.

I've run several events with the Ohlins at the track, and there are no issues with rubbing and the suspension bottoming out. I have no problem with "lack of travel", because I simply am not at that point where bump travel is an issue.

Now having said that, would having more travel be beneficial? Sure. But in some cases (yours comes to mind) the hunt for more travel may only end up with more adjustment on the coilover height-wise, and no other benefit.

The travel part is actually ok, I'm thinking this just allows me to physically be abit lower is all then what those body designs and adjustment will allow, I would keep those coils within their spec and I think this would allow it to be easier is all? This is all (height) in mind not stroke per say.
