It sounded fine until I added my JDL header. Then it was pretty loud. It didn't drone but when I got on the throttle, it sounded racecar loud. It was over the top for me though some people probably would like the split personalities that setup had. I found that it was so loud I never wanted to get on the throttle anymore which made the car a drag to drive day to day.

The tone was really nice but if that video is anywhere near real world it's on the loud side.

Hard to compare it since i haven't heard this car with any kind of exhaust.

It sounds like it doesn't drone while cruising. If that is the case, i love it!

Does a bigger muffler affect flow? I'm having issues of it being too loud.. I'm FI, EL headers, straight front pipe, Invidia N1. do you need a tune for just changing the CBE? What other options are there other than the q300 for a quiet exhaust? I saw a video with a catless setup with the q300 and it was a bit raspy. any bassy toned CBE that is quiet?

SirBrass 02-05-2014 03:13 AM

No, not really. It's just a weight addition & sound reduction. Thus why straight pipe, unresonated, muffler-less is what racecars have... B/c weight reduction.

For Street cars, mufflers & resonators don't take away performance & help with noise

CBE shouldn't need a tune....maybe the perrin or Greddy DP elite but i haven't heard them in person.

Only cbe that will mess with your tune is maybe a straight dump or stock. (Had no effect on a wrx or sti)

This may sound very simplistic but if you look and listen to all of the available options you'll see that there is a very definite correlation between muffler size and overall loudness. Every CBE/ABE using small dual canister mufflers is on the loud side of the spectrum while those with the largest single mufflers are the quietest.

IMO Nameless, Invidia N1, et al sound amazing right up until you add a cat-less header and then become obnoxiously loud, raspy and droney. The SP Elite and Q300 are almost too quiet until you add a header and then become just about perfect, IMO.

Apologies if off topic, but I saw Q300 mentioned a few times so I'd ask in here: how does it compare to the SP Elite in terms of volume (on stock vehicle)? Would you say one is noticeably louder than the other or the same?

I'm just going to warn you if you are planning on going Catless UEL's, Front Pipe, and Nameless Axelback, you might want to reconsider. That's my current setup and the amount of rasp is ridiculous. It sounds horrible. I created a thread about it asking for advice a few weeks ago. I'm going to be installing the Perrin exhaust over the weekend.

You need to decide now, before you buy your Axelback/CBE if you are going to want catless headers, or else you are going to be disappointed in the end.

In my experience this is spot on (I've run both an N1 and Q300). Biggest decision you need to make is if you are or are not going to run a header. After that, pick your catback, cats, resonators, based on your first decision of header/no header.

I agree with this guy 110%. I had the Perrin non resonated headerback system before I got the Borla uel headers. It sounded great until I got the headers and to say the least I was embarrassed to drive me car. Don't make the same mistake I did. If your going to get headers down the road get a resonated system. If not, get a non resonated system. End of story.

So far I'm only seeing the SP elite, and Q300. any other choices out there for decreased noise and at least 2.5"?

@BRZPDX have you checked out our DT-S or GRiP systems?

DT-S:

GRiP:

They sound refined outside and drone is minimized inside with the highest amount of usable mid-range power!
