Caravan to Thunderhill 2-6

We were talking last night and quite a few of us are doing the HPDE at Thunderhill on Feb. 7th. So, I wanted to get a thread started to organize a caravan up the night before. Maybe meet at the Starbucks in Milpitas on Calaveras and head up from there? Also, post here if you are going because I don't know forum handles of the folks that I spoke to last night.

Starbucks
1197 East Calaveras Boulevard
Milpitas, CA 95035

Thursday Feb. 6
7:00 PM Roll out at 7:30

Also, a couple of people were curious as to where I picked up my helmet. I got it at Santa Clara Cycle. It is SA10 (Snell Approved 2010) but it is a motorcycle helmet and is not designed for fires and roll cage hits the way a auto racing helmet is. Here is the link to the helmet. However, it is also about 1/3 of the cost. It does meet the requirements in the NCRC checklist http://www.ncracing.org/docs/carchecklist.pdf

I also have a room reserved with two beds if anyone wants to save a few bucks and split the room.

*edit to link to specific helmet

pretty much all the sessions are full except the most advanced group (Open). :(

But if you are interested in just going to the track and watching others drive it is totally free to go in. You just sign in at the front gate and tell them you are there for the track day as a spectator. The other good thing about that is, you can roll in anytime during the day (9-5) and not worry about coming in super early to attend the drivers meetings.

Of course if you are interested in learning more about the track driving experience it's great sometimes to sit in on the drivers' meetings and download sessions even if you are not driving that day. Last few track days we've done in groups, have been a lot of fun even for those who aren't driving. If you have a helmet bring it, you might be able to catch a ride off someone on track!

Meet at 7:00 and roll out at 7:30? It would put us there fairly late in the evening but traffic should be a non-issue by that point. Could make it 6 and 6:30 respectively.

Works for me... 7 is easier!

mkivsoopra 02-04-2014 03:51 PM

It'll take us about 45 mins to get to Concord without traffic, so meet @BRZkitty there around 8:15-8:30?

Seeing as I am relatively new to the area, I don't know where that it. Give me directions or I can follow whomever. I'm easy.
