FR-S styled after Prius?

compare

noticed this when i saw a Prius today, both cars have a oddly waved hood to accent the front logo, also both have the turn signals down low in the styled bumper slots.

correct me if I'm wrong..though toyota designed both..so not surprising really.

I think its probably just because of Toyota's overall design language. There are certain elements they use across cars to help you know at first glance it is a Toyota (or GM, or Ferrari, or whatever).

Ikaros 05-04-2012 10:12 AM

It's like how mazdas have that weird grin now. Toyota seem to have lines radiating from the logo.

neutron256 05-04-2012 10:22 AM

I get what you're saying, but I don't see it.

Duff_man 05-04-2012 10:39 AM

You guys all missed the obvious! It's the same tires!

Doh! You're right!

Maybe they should have named it the Prius-S, or even better, the AT version could be the PA-S and the MT version could be the PM-S....

Ugh never mind.

Again with the tires? They aren't standard Prius tires!

Ikaros 05-04-2012 10:59 AM

Lol don't be too tough on him guys.

Here's a thread explaining the misconception behind the "Prius" tires http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3500

Guff 05-04-2012 11:13 AM

Lol guys, it was just a joke...

Ikaros 05-04-2012 11:20 AM

I dont know what you guys are talking about, but its clearly a Hyundai Accent rip off. Look at the windows, you can see right through them.

It's all Toyota's design language, as was stated earlier. Line up any manufacturer's offering of vehicles and you'll see similarities between most, if not all of them. The BRZ's front bumper shares design language with its model offerings as well.

Not only with the Prius but a host of other Toyotas too. This is nothing new and Toyota and other manufactures have been doing this for a long time. They find a styling niche and go with it.

While were on the subject of asthetics...

Did you guys notice that the red tail lights from the concept BRZ STI landed on the VW Jetta? What gives right? LOL

Sorry for the lack of pics, but I'm on the celly.

^ right there! LOL

86'd 05-04-2012 06:25 PM

I'm biased since my wife and I just bought a Prius, but the new generation looks kinda aggressive.

As far as it looking like the 86... I think others here have already answered that. I think it's just the Toyota "theme."

It's kinda amazing how talented car designers are; to mix styles but to also make the cars stand on their own. A rare breed.

Subie 05-04-2012 06:59 PM

All the new Toyotas look like fish to me. The 86 is the biggest fish of them all, a giant catfish. Those creases in the 86's front bumper aren't helping at all for its side-profile, either.

Mmmm catfish! That helps explain why I like it so much.

I think this is one of the sexiest cars out right now and it has the same logo lines coming off.
