NC Mazda Miata

I am referring to the non-existent 4th generation Miata.

Wonder when it will come out...

Wonder what you guys think....

I am a big Miata fan and I am curious what is in the pipeline.

It is cool though, the Twins come up a lot on the Miata forum. It appears the Twins are now the benchmark.

My summary of the Miata community and their thoughts on other cars that are RWD...

Mustang/Camaro= Muscle cars too heavy...not real sports cars, but are indeed fun.

Genesis Coupe= great bang for the buck, but unrefined chassis

350/370Z= nice engine, almost muscle car, almost sports car...more grand tourer...they feel its sloppy when pushed to limits...

Twins= great feel and responsive engine (they generally seem to think its the best FWD platform unless they are still picking the Miata...but the respect is there)

EDIT! meant ND Miata!

I've managed to get my hands on a top secret photo of what the NC Miata will look like when released!

Car will be announced next year, 2016 it will hit showroom floors. I don't think that will move by much.

This thing has been delayed at least two years if you've been following it and their goals were modest.
-Reduce weight
-Maintain power output while improving economy
-Maintain Miata philosophy "Oneness between horse and rider"

The only questions remain on the specifics, I don't expect anything revolutionary just a much needed update. If I liked convertibles I wouldn't be here, I would have bought a Miata (or S2k), but I don't so I'm not terribly interested other than from an enthusiast perspective.

The interesting thing will be the Alfa Spyder, that thing could be a kick in the pants to the convertible market depending on the engine.

It's the ND Miata and there's already a thread out on this.

Gah...so many mistakes in my OP...

In my defense, I just had dental surgery so I was loopy...

Yeah...

ND Miata (the new one)

Twins are RWD...

I'm excited about the ND Miata because of how light it's supposed to be. My only real complaints about the previous NC Miata were the soft handling and lack of a fixed-roof option. If Mazda can address these points in the next Miata, I might seriously consider one.

I'd consider a ND Miata if its around 1100kg or less and came turbocharged with 225+HP, manual trans for under $40k here in Canada.

I'm hoping the ND Miata knocks down NC prices - once the BRZ is off lease (assuming I don't keep it), that might be the ticket.

Yeah, that sounds more than a little implausible. I do think it will hit that weight target, as it sounds like they've given up on the 1,000 kg target. But you'll have to wait for an RX7 or similar to see that kind of power, or possibly the Alfa, which is rumored to be available with the same motor (or similar, after turning it 90 degrees) as the 4C, which is around 240 hp. Of course I'd imagine that will be over your price target, at least slightly.

Hmm, 1100 kg would be disappointing for the ND considering the current NC is ~1127 kg. That's only a 60 lbs. weight reduction.

True, but their target is still "under" 1,100kg. Given that it's supposed to be larger with more room inside and more power, I'd be happy with something around 2,300 lbs, or 1050 - 1060 kg.
