In the shop. Showed them the squeak. They greased it. No squeak. Problem solved.

They did much more than grease mine I believe. They had to take the whole transmission out to fix it apparently. I'd play it safe and just let them fix it for you. I don't think it's something you can just grease and be done with it. They had my car for over a week.

Thank you |
Don't know if it's the same, My clutch pedal is making a click at the begining of it's stroke. Sounds to be coming from the Clutch cylinder

I had the same problem and they used grease, which fixed it for a little, but it came right back. They just recently replaced the clutch fork and that seemed to get rid of it—at least for now. I have heard of other people on the nasioc forum having the clutch fork replaced on their WRX and that seemed to fix the problem for them as well. I hope that helps.

Got the sqeakey noise with crunchy pedal feel during the last inch or two before clutch is fully depressed. Pretty disappointing for a 25k mile car considering I never hard launch and always sit in N at lights.
Assuming it needs more than a lube job what are my chances of getting the shift fork (or whatever needs to be) replaced under warranty with a rear tranny mount and whiteline insert? Edit: going in today so I'm about to find out |
We greased/lubed up the clutch fork and input shaft really well and all noises went away.

How'd it go? |

I went there asking them to lube the shift fork because of what I read on this forum. They made me wait 3 hours and said it's something "internal" so they can't just lube it. Said they'll contact toyota then get back to me. They called a few days later telling me that toyota doesn't know what's causing it yet so bring it in for a lubing (which they wouldn't do the first time I asked). Instead of taking it back I raised my clutch pedal so that it's now barely higher than the brake pedal. The noise went away and I haven't gone back to the dealer yet. |
Hi Folks, I picked up my brand new BRZ 10 days ago, and shifting from 1st to 2nd is a bit rough and there is a clanking noise. .....
From 3rd to fourth is very smooth and all other shifting is ok.... I just sent an e-mail to my sales guy to see what he recommends. In the meantime, what do you guys recommend? |
I had this sound:
[ame]http://youtu.be/Xu8cEgt6_eY[/ame] and got my throw-out bearing replaced. sound is completely gone and the crunchy feeling at the bottom of the clutch is also gone. get it taken care of while you have the warranty. |

So i have the squeaking noise almost when the clutch is all the way to the ground. I am FI im guessing its probably better to just upgrade the clutch at this point?

Will probably keep an eye on it for now since I have 20k left on that warranty. |
Throwing this out there, has anyone removed the clutch spring? I will need to put this back on before bringing it to the dealer. Also wondering if anyone is past 40k with this noise, and or has decided to not fix it and is living with the noise.
|
Dropped the transmission, lubed the shift fork where it pushes on the throw out bearing, replaced the throwout bearing since it also looked/felt worn, and lubed the pivot point where the slave touches the fork.
No more noise. |
I am having the same sound that was posted in the video. Dropped mine off for service today and mentioned the problem. I will update with what happens...
|
Got exact same problem with mine. 35.5K miles - #9xx ever produced, bone stock, DD, never launched/abused. Will be dropping the car at the dealer on Wednseday and keep you updated.

Just picked up my car and they said they could not replicate the issue. I took one of the techs for a test drive to try to replicate the problem... and it didn't happen. He greased up the spring and cable but im believing that it is in fact the throw out bearing like others have reported. When I got home the squeak came back, but alot quieter.
Going to live with it until my warranty is about to expire. :bonk: |
Yea last week my dealership did a courtesy warrenty on my throw out bearing. The tech said it was pretty bad.. Clutch sounds and feels great now. Now i just need to figure out whats up with my ac at start up

I just wanted to also add my personal experience here to confirm what seems to be a common issue with the manual transmissions.
I just picked up my car yesterday afternoon from a local Subaru dealership for the same issue, including clutch squeaking, stiff clutch, and weird catch points. It started initially as just the squeaking clutch, but the clutch action started to get stiffer, and the catch point started to shift on me. The tech initially said he couldn't repro the issue, so I called BS and told them exactly what they had to do in order to repro the problem. After inspection, it was found that the throwout bearing was seizing, which had caused damage to the clutch disk, clutch housing, flywheel, and clutch fork and springs. A full clutch kit was ordered and all of the previously-mentioned items were replaced under warranty. After the repair, the car is driving BUTTERY smooth, with no noise either. Seriously, the car didn't even feel this good from the factory. I'm thinking there is something wrong with the spec for these items coming from the factory, because the car feels fantastic now and the noise is gone! |

I also noticed that the noise occurred more during hotter weather, or after extended periods of driving. I'd highly recommend driving around for maybe 30 - 45 minutes before dropping your car off, as this allows the transmission components to be heated up fully.
Anyways, I told the tech that reproducing it would need two people, one person fully depressing the clutch, and one person listening with the hood open. I also pointed out that while the hood is open, the noise can be heard coming from where the transmission tunnel mates with the engine, right around the flywheel. Quote:

I had 22k on the car but im also not stock so they didnt have to do anything. The service team was very helpful. I have a toyota dealer closer to me but ill never go back to them again.
|
Now that pretty much everyone knows that the throwout bearing in this car is complete garbage.... what can we do about it? I've been using the ACT throwout bearing, but I'm convinced that it's either stock or the exact same as stock. Something has to be done because I'm nearing my 4th removal of my transmission and my 2nd replacement of the throwout bearing.
|
Curious if this has been related to the burning smell coming into the cabin.

Agreed. I'm taking mine back since the noise slowly came back after I adjusted my clutch pedal higher (previously had it adjusted really low). Here's a video of mine taken today: [ame]http://youtu.be/97KFyuYEq8M[/ame] Can anyone with a replaced bearing confirm this is the same noise? Could this have been caused by adjusting the clutch pedal grab point too low? |
Sounds like mine but yours sounds alot worse

What mods have you done and did they mention them when replacing your bearing? |
The vortech kinda stood out
