I just wanted to also add my personal experience here to confirm what seems to be a common issue with the manual transmissions.

I just picked up my car yesterday afternoon from a local Subaru dealership for the same issue, including clutch squeaking, stiff clutch, and weird catch points. It started initially as just the squeaking clutch, but the clutch action started to get stiffer, and the catch point started to shift on me.

The tech initially said he couldn't repro the issue, so I called BS and told them exactly what they had to do in order to repro the problem. After inspection, it was found that the throwout bearing was seizing, which had caused damage to the clutch disk, clutch housing, flywheel, and clutch fork and springs. A full clutch kit was ordered and all of the previously-mentioned items were replaced under warranty.

After the repair, the car is driving BUTTERY smooth, with no noise either. Seriously, the car didn't even feel this good from the factory. I'm thinking there is something wrong with the spec for these item coming from the factory, because the car feels fantastic now and the noise is gone!

What did you do to replicate the problem at the dealer? It seems I'm only able to reproduce the noise when temps are 85+

I also noticed that the noise occurred more during hotter weather, or after extended periods of driving. I'd highly recommend driving around for maybe 30 - 45 minutes before dropping your car off, as this allows the transmission components to be heated up fully.

Anyways, I told the tech that reproducing it would need two people, one person fully depressing the clutch, and one person listening with the hood open. I also pointed out that while the hood is open, the noise can be heard coming from where the transmission tunnel mates with the engine, right around the flywheel.

I had 22k on the car but im also not stock so they didnt have to do anything. The service team was very helpful. I have a toyota dealer closer to me but ill never go back to them again.

Now that pretty much everyone knows that the throwout bearing in this car is complete garbage.... what can we do about it? I've been using the ACT throwout bearing, but I'm convinced that it's either stock or the exact same as stock. Something has to be done because I'm nearing my 4th removal of my transmission and my 2nd replacement of the throwout bearing.

Curious if this has been related to the burning smell coming into the cabin.

Agreed. I'm taking mine back since the noise slowly came back after I adjusted my clutch pedal higher (previously had it adjusted really low).

Here's a video of mine taken today:

Can anyone with a replaced bearing confirm this is the same noise? Could this have been caused by adjusting the clutch pedal grab point too low?

Sounds like mine but yours sounds alot worse

What mods have you done and did they mention them when replacing your bearing?

Your creaking sounds a lot like a dry clutch fork to me. I'd have Scion/Toyota fix that for you under warranty.
* I had this same exact issue

This seems odd but after a brake bleed and track day the squeaking went away, clutch is quiet.

Took the car to the dealer. They replaced the pressure plate under warranty. I asked if they replaced anything else and they said no. Problem is fixed. No squeak and also better engagement.

Got exact same problem with mine. 35.5K miles - #9xx ever produced, bone stock, DD, never launched/abused. Will be dropping the car at the dealer on Wednseday and keep you updated.

There really should be a TSB about this. My 2013 FRS w/ 22k miles recently developed this problem. Took it into Fred Anderson toyota in Raleigh this week (I only drop their name because they treated me very well and gave me no problems about replacing the clutch under warranty). They did not hear the noise at first but I told them to drive around because it only happens when the transmission is warm they did and they were able to reproduce the sound, and are going to replace the entire clutch assembly under warranty and they also went ahead and replaced my HPFP under warranty which i didnt even bring up bc the chirpping didnt really bother me and no performance issue afaik

I took a better video tonight of the problem area. Is there a fix for this?
