Me neither. First gen TOB is a time bomb. Good luck getting home safely.

Here at dealer, definitely one of the better deals to be. Techs are all car guys and the one helping me has a 2013 himself. Let's see what the diagnosis is.

Update: damn TOB... And I'm out of warranty. At least the rep talked to the manager and got the price down. The steering column needs to be swapped too at some point, source off my damn dash rattle [emoji58].

Add my 2013 Scion FRS to this problems list. I had Ecu and tail light issues and recently had my engine replaced, lucky all was covered under extended warranty. I think after repairing this problem I am going to trade for a 2016 Porsche Cayman S.

What happened to the engine?

If you don't know how and you want to learn, lemme know. It takes a little practice for timing and feel but is pretty simple.

I'm all ears for this, I do it with the bike all the time & sometimes with my other cars, some tranies are better then other's what RPM u shift at?

Does our car's steering column have a grease point like some other Toyotas? If so, I'd explore that option before replacing steering column (intermediate shaft?).

Not sure, I did see a thread here of a guy using copper grease and it stopped his rattle. Haven't tried it yet.

Reviving this thread, yet again! After reading all 44 pages and about 15 other threads, I was dead certain Ultra had the fix for my squeaky pedal and brought the ole girl out today to fix it with a buddy using the lithium #2 grease on all the pivot points.

However I've been starting to hear additional clanking, more than the usual amount. I've always heard the initial engagement "smack" or "clank" or whatever other onomatopoeia you can think of when pulling into the garage at low speeds. The worst is always in first and pulling up the drive into the garage. When I want to disengage the clutch and coast the rest of the way the clutch "clanks" back and forth 2-4 times and is fine after. I do have a stage 2 daily south bend clutch and have heard the engagement clank (only 1 clank) since I've had that clutch in (20k miles/2 years). Pretty sure I kept the OEM flywheel and had it resurfaced. Also had upgraded (17+) TOB, clutch fork, pivot, and pivot ball all replaced at the same time as well since we were already in there. The squeak only reared it's ugly head about 400 mi ago and I've been intentionally driving it less since. It only happens as the car warms up 15-30 min. The clanking happens anytime I disengage after the car has a little torque or I was feathering the clutch with no gas. Is the clanking normal and the squeak is the only thing to fix? I'll try to get sound/video of the clanking here soon. If its just the squeak then I already have the 44 pages of knowledge of how to fix haha, thanks all!

@Ultramaroon, hope you don't mind if I pull you in for yet another transmission conversation!

Whoops! I missed this years ago. Sorry about that.

Not at all. Please try to get a recording of the sounds.

I spent most of the weekend trying to capture it and of course it only made the noises when I wasn't recording. Will keep trying to capture it! Otherwise I did record what slightly sounds like whirring (maybe TOB barely starting to wear out). Is this whirring totally normal and I'm just being paranoid? I also captured the squeak which came back right after we applied lithium grease to the pivot point in the engine bay and on the pivot point @ the clutch fork in the trans using a smaller paint brush to reach in there. The only thing not greased so far has been the other end of the metal rod in the slave cylinder behind the boot. Clutch has seemed to be a little more grabby then usual lately as well. Definitely don't feel comfortable driving longer distances as I don't want to get stranded if something were to happen.

Mine would sound just as dramatic inside the garage. The clack is to be expected when rapidly accelerating the whole gearset. There's plenty of lash in there to account for that noise. Here's the sound of my backup transmission. It came out of a wrecked boosted one. This is what they sound like after some abuse. It sounds no worse today than it did when first installed.

The creak is annoying, I know. Did you try my trick of pulling the top of the fork forward to bottom out the piston in the slave cylinder? Then jiggle it back and forth rapidly to move stuff around at the pivots. If the creak goes away for a while after that, then you've found the source. You'll probably also notice how badly the TOB hangs up on the quill. It's a really shitty design.
