I even gave the service guy some notes from this thread, and they had their "service tech with clutch and transmission expertise" work on it. After a 3 hour wait, I get the car back and a different guy writing up the receipt says "it was being caused by my fuel pump, and a new one was ordered..." :mad0259:
I tried to explain this is obviously not the "crickets noise" or a "ticking noise", and it happens with the application of the clutch pedal and he said they can try and look at it again if I want to schedule another appointment! I pressed the clutch and he said even he could hear it... I'm about done with this, really needs a TSB from Toyota or Subaru already!

That's the EXACT same thing that happened to me, they replaced the fuel pump on mine too. At least now it only chirps when it's really hot out :sigh:

It seems the Imprezza has this exact same problem according to a mechanic friend of mine. Throwout bearings are going out on those way before the clutches do as well. I wonder if they use the same part from subaru.

When I checked the bearing part number, it was the same as the Forester's bearing part.

Looks like I'll have to "escalate" the case with Toyota not honoring their warranty. Hopefully some of the fold that already had the repairs done under warranty will give me a hand. @ravenstig @tunami @tracerit @xlid007 @MastasmurF @LavosTRD

I will be contacting the national office to let them know about this common defect including my case that was denied warranty.

Have you tried taking it to a different dealership? Not sure where you brought yours, but Culver City Toyota did a pretty good job.

It's actually already finished, but I'm trying to get reimbursed for the money I paid.

There are 2 points. One is easy, the other requires pulling the geabox.

Locate the point where the slave actuator rod meets the clutch fork.

Have a little grain-of-rice sized dab of grease ready on your thumb.

With the same hand carrying the grease, pull the clutch fork forward, collapsing the slave actuator a little bit.

Then, while holding the rod with the other hand, squish that little dab of grease into the mating receptacle and let the rod seat itself back in.

If that doesn't do the trick, it's time to drop the tranny. :(

I'm NOT a believer of Subaru engineering yet so I'm almost always the pessimist fearing the worst but I tried this & was gobsmacked as the loud squeaking that was before is NO more :D I'm a very happy chappy :happyanim:

I cleaned the two mating points before re-greasing with the hi-temp stuff & I noticed the fork appears coated/painted but the contact point seemed scuffed & a little corroded which might explain the squeak.

Thank You for this informative & effective solution - I hope it lasts another 2.5 years.

ps: clutch actuation now also smoother :D

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but in tinkering with @Aztec's clutch fork I am not confident the squeak is coming from the top pivot. It does need to be lubricated so that's good.

I've observed that simply pulling the fork forward and swinging the whole assembly in a direction it doesn't normally see seems to at least temporarily quiet down the squeak. I'm guessing some existing lubricant is picked up and spread around when we do this.
@Decay107, it is time for us to get on the DIY. Can't do it this weekend but hopefully next. How's your schedule?

I will keep you guys posted if it all goes pear shaped, but for now it's excellent.

Next weekend I'm prepping the car for some track time, weekend after?

I've been having same issue for quite a bit now. I tried to remove the rubber dust boot that's around the clutch fork, but didn't work. I used lithium grease spray can with straw on it to squirt small bit of grease on front and back side of clutchfork, just enough so that the grease can run down and touch the pivot point. Now the squeak is gone.

Rained yesterday for first time in a week or so and the noise came back. It was still raining this morning and the noise was just as loud. So I should assume the noise is somehow related to rain, water, or general dampness.

Lubing the pushrod inside of the slave cylinder got rid of the noise.
Is this what Ultramaroon and Dacay107 are planning on making DIY for?
I'm also surprised that the tech service said there is no other reports of clutch squeak noise.

Hmmmm... Mine is lubed. Still planning on dropping the trans for this.

I started hearing this noise on my vehicle a couple of weeks back too. At first I thought it was something temporary and it will give away (noise was very faint). I then did some research online and found this thread.

The noise on my vehicle has been the same (attached video) for the past 2 weeks. I'm not able to reproduce the noise at all times and have been a little hesitant to take it to the dealer for the same reason. I'm not sure under what conditions I can reproduce the noise consistently as I have heard the noise after driving around for some time, after a cold start and when the vehicle is parked with the engine idling, but never consistently.

After reading the majority of this thread I see that this issues is being linked to the throwout bearing/clutch plate. Is there anything else I can check from my end before taking it to the dealership?

I have 38k miles on my vehicle but I have the extended powertrain warranty on it too. So hopefully, this should be covered under warranty.
