Do you have any pics of them lit up side by side with a BRZ with the stock power boomerangs (entire vehicles, not headlight next to headlight)? I'd like to see the comparison.

First post has been updated with side by side comparison shots.

Here are some crappy side by side photos of my car with a stock BRZ boomerang. Sorry for the iPhone camera.

Quick question on this, did you bake the lights to get to the components inside? And if so, did you bake them with the HID bulbs and wiring/etc everything still attached? Seems like that is the only way to do this and to access the wiring. Just didnt see anywhere that you mentioned it.

Great tutorial, wish I had the know-how to do this myself!

Bump for an answer to this question

Just did this. Also blacked out the lights. Looks great. Man they are bright now!!

One thing i would add, you dont have to trim the fins on the heatsinks. What i did was simply heat the plastic that they are hitting with a heatgun, then pushed that in slightly, allows the full heatsink to fit, and is much easier and faster to simply do that.

Are you experienced at this sort of thing? How difficult would you say it would be for someone with little knowledge of this type of thing to do?

I removed what I could which would be the ballast and bulb. The wiring harness has to remain on the headlight when baking because part of it can't be unplugged until you separate the housing and the lens.

That's great to know! I'm glad you completed the tutorial successfully. I believe you are the first.

Not experienced at all. Although I feel very comfortable soldering. That's the key thing in my opinion. If you feel comfortable soldering a circuit board connection.

Honestly, I was more concerned with baking my lights and taking apart and reassembling. That was tough.

The circuit board mod was quite simple , as its really just a few solder connections.

Do make sure you have a multimeter to check the connections for continuity after scoring the trace. As noted, be absolutely certain there is a good clean brake, you need to be sure the connection is open.

I always go into a new mod with the idea that it could go wrong and you will be paying for a new part. If you can't accept that, then I advise you to not do this.

Great job! If you get a chance, could you please take some daytime photos as well?

Hope no one minds me bumping this but...

I was wondering, how easy/possible would it be to scrap the stock setup altogether and replace the LEDs with SMD 5050 RGB LEDs with a RGB controller?

I see places making angel eyes using SMD 5050 RGBs mounted in a circle with one of those common chinese RF or IR controllers.

I cant seem to find any pre-wired single SMD 5050 RGB LED though, I only see them sold in strips. Any ideas?

hmm... this is pretty tempting, and looks really pretty easy. Looks great, and great write up!
