AutoX battle - Turbo BRZ vs. N/A GT86 (video)

What matters at the track? Power? Suspension setup? Tires? Driving? These two videos answer none of those questions.

Just two very different ZN6s on the same track, on the same day.

See the difference, draw your own conclusions.

with those long straights i am not surprised the turbo car had an advantage.

I just like how you can see the difference that the turbo makes in acceleration.

Also easy to notice how much more the blue car rolls and dives.

I would say skills and tires help... This car has been proven that tires alone can make a big enough impact right out of the box. Seeing improvements from suspension takes a bit more skill.

Also, power helps a bit too, especially in this case.

Ultra, it looks like you could have gotten closer to the cones and taken a bit better of a line through the first cone section before the open track. Also can't gauge speed well, but it looks like you could have taken the first righthand sweeper on track a little faster or braked a little later?

Just rewatched it- you lost a lot of time at that cone turnaround in that section i was talking about

That looks a lot more like a road course with a few cone elements than an autox course.

...as Basel (the BRZ driver) very ably demonstrates. I have a few thousands worth in suspension mods at this point - goes to show what a few hundred spent on tires can do.

Indeed. I was messing up that section very badly the whole day. Just too fast in and too slow to react. Haven't AutoXed in a few years, and never in this car.

That's exactly what it is! We have two types of Autocross here - the 1st gear only kind and, well, this. I prefer this, despite the whole power thing.

My thoughts exactly, but a great comparo!

Ahh, well if this is your first time in the car and you've had a break, then that makes sense. No harm, no foul. And I'd be lying if I said I haven't had autocrosses like that (keep on messing up a turn or something related). Keep at it and you'll knock off a second or two between you and the turbo car
