Trunk light out

My trunk light no longer comes on when the trunk is open. I'm trying to check the fuses but not clear which fuse goes to the trunk light.

Any recommendations on what to do?

i'd probably try replacing the bulb first if you haven't already done so

Bulb looks ok. Haven't tried another bulb yet tho.

Check it with a multimeter to see if you even have power at the socket.

Went to get a new bulb at Pep Boys still didn't work. I actually also tested the old bulb on a 12VDC power supply and it did come on so it wasn't the bulb (should have done this before spending $5 on a couple new bulbs). Seems like it isn't getting power for some reason. Must be either the fuse or the sensor/latch that senses the trunk is open.

Is the trunk open light on the dash on when when the trunk is open? And is your dome light set to door mode?

The sensor is on the trunk latch. Fuse is the 20A dome fuse same one for the interior dome lights.

Great question. When the trunk is open, the door/trunk open light no longer comes on (it did before). As a side note, since I put some dynamat in the trunk lid and my 5-axis spoiler, the extra weight on the trunk lid gives the struts some more work (sometimes I can't even tell it is open). So where is the latch/sensor that tells the car the trunk is open?

The sensor sends a signal to the body control module the turns on the light for the cluster and provides the ground for the light in the trunk. That sensor is part of the latch that releases the trunk to open.

Does your dome light work?

Yeah it does.

I Just checked my brz, the connector and wire are on the trunk lid you will see the connector on the passenger side of the latch release.

Then then your trunk light fuse is good. It just needs that switch signal.

mit_peid 02-02-2014 11:38 AM

Going to spend some more time today looking for the source of the trunk switch signal. For the front driver/passenger doors, it is the little black rubber knob thing that triggers the signal (I believe), but not sure what I'm looking for in the trunk.
