Buy now or later?

Hi people,

I am on my way to purchase my first car, but here is my situation: the dealer told me each month they have a different discount and January it is a -1k deal, plus I am eligible for the college grad rebate which is another -1k. Total of 2k discount before I negotiate the price. Since we are almost at the end of the month, they told me that if the February deal is better we will go with that one or vice versa (Go with January deal and do the paperwork in February.) I am also not planning to drive the car during winter, so they will store the car indoor at the dealer until I decide to take it out, < Option #1

Option #2 > Buy in March as planned. without knowing the the amount of the promotion, still eligible for the grad rebate (last month for the promotion, what the website said), snow will melt and ready to drive right of the dealer.

Which option will you guys pick?

Thanks up front for the reply, FYI I have 2 cars I can drive, I take the bus to work which is more convenient and only 2 spots driveway in winter because of the Tempo and 4 in summer. That might helps for the answer.

Buy it now, get snow tires, and enjoy it! You're not planning to store it every winter, are you?

They will store the car indoors for winter? Is that common in Canada? Sounds ummm fishy to me.

Yea that sounds very sketchy... why would a dealership give up their own storage space for free... once a car is sold they want it gone asap to avoid all liability incase something happens to the car you just bought.

2K off and the dealer might not be willing to negotiate anything. I also say get some snow tires and have fun, this car is a riot in the snow. Or, save some cash over the next couple months and bring a bigger down payment and get snow tires next season.

I don't know about the Montreal area, but March can sometimes still be pretty snowy in some ares of the US. Fuck it, get it now and treat her to some snow shoes to celebrate. Have fun going sideways!

Only the remaining months until winter ends, and it just happen that this dealer has an underground parking. I don't know if they have storage service later on.

That's strange to me. But good for you I guess. Never heard of that before.

Ya it can still snow here in March, but our law for putting summer tires on starts after March 15. We haven't got much snow lately it is either very cold and salty on the road or warmer temperature and brown slush.

I say wait till March. This way you don't have the extra expense of getting sown tires. Don't worry. March will be here before you know it. You will have proper weather to enjoy the car :)

Scion is pure pricing... there is no "Negotiations". What you see is what you pay except rebates/promotions.

I got mine 2250 dollars off MSRP because

1) 750 College Grad
2) 1500 because my car was on Manager Special. Clearance sale. LOL

Buy it now since you know you will get 2K off. I personally would never store the car at the dealership. Read some threads about poor service at these dealerships. Buy it. Store it or get some snow tires and drive it.

Whitigir 01-26-2014 08:38 AM

If you need a car, and have a sweet discount, buy it now. If you want a car, but have another DD car, you can wait
