Junkers that would prepare me for BRZ
 

I have no experience driving a manual. Do you all have any recommendations for a junker (under $2000 ideally) that I could drive for 6 months that would make me a better BRZ MT driver?

Saab, Miata (If you can find one), Nissan Z31 300ZX, Honda civic...so many to list.

Edit: Honestly you'd be fine learning stick on the BRZ, just go slow and give it time. Learn to feel the clutch and its slip point. You'll fuck up a few times, but you'll learn.

Yeah, I figure I wouldn't screw up that much but since I'm leaning towards waiting to buy used when the '15s come out in Sep/Oct, I figure I might as well make the transition easier.

Do you think getting RWD would be important? They're pretty hard to find.

If you wanna learn stick then it doesn't really matter where the wheels are powered.

also, keep in mind, asking price is just about never selling price.

Save your $2k and get a new clutch after you burn up the stocker.

when are you looking to buy a beater? I'm driving a 95 integra (5sp) until I replace my brz. Its in your price range.

Mid 90's Miata. It won't be a junker, but it WILL prepare you for driving a BRZ (very similar transmissions, both nice), and it is cheap as hell to buy, maintain, and even rebuild if necessary. Not sure you could get one for $2k, but $4k is definitely doable if you look hard (most nice old Miatas don't leave their owners until they're absolutely worn out).

Nissan 240SX would be a good choice as the weight balance front to rear is pretty close and it's rear wheel drive.

As long as you don't grind gears your new car will be fine. just replace clutch if you mess it up. A lot of us on here this is first manual car and our clutches are fine. I have only seen a couple posts of burnt clutches.

Front or rear wheel won't make a significant difference learning to clutch.
An old civic will accustom you to the mechanics involved for a low cash outlay.
Civics are fun anyway.
