Stock Dyno and Perrin Stage 1 Results
1 Attachment(s)
Note: As always big thanks to Jeff and Chris at Perrin for fielding all my stupid questions and general patience through this process.
As m car is near 5,000mi (4,800mi specifically) and a year old I wanted to do a dyno to see my base line whp and the effects of the Perrin stage 1 NA tune. My car has no power mods other than the Perrin filter which was used in both runs. I have a custom oil cooler and the car has fresh Mobil 1 0W-20 oil and amsoil tranny and diff fluids. I forgot to select map 4 on the Perrin tune for these runs so what your seeing is Map 1 which means I likely left a few whp/torque on the table. The dyno was a dynojet and the runs were done in 4th gear. 5th gear didn’t make a material difference in the results. Temps were about 60 degrees and these are SAE corrected figures. I'm running 93 octane gas. I’m very happy with the midrange gains with the Perrin tune and I’m sure the stage 4 map adds more power and further closes the torque dip gap. I am a little concerned I didn’t dyno more than 156.8whp on the factory stock map as most of the cars I see on the forums consistently dyno in the mid 160’s totally bone stock. I realize it’s hard to compare car to car with dyno’s but I’d appreciate other peoples thoughts. I feel like the car should be broken in and it has very efficient fluids and an air filter. Any thoughts on ways to increase my stock numbers? |
Dyno numbers are not reliable when you compare them to one another, unless it was the same car on the same exact dyno in the exact same environmental conditions.
On a different dyno your car could get higher or even lower numbers. Use your numbers to compare when you start doing modifications to see what those mods have done to increase your power over stock. |

Some dynos of stock engines have shown improvement in power after passing 7000 miles, so your engine is probably still breaking in to some degree. But the bumpiness in the power above 6700 RPM with the Perrin tune is a bit worrying. Is it pulling timing due to knock?

Going to do a log to check about knock up top to be safe. Bumpy at redline seems to be common issue with all the NA tunes I've seen.
