Factory turbo FR-S - why not?

My opinion:

With Suburu most likely coming out with a turbo BRZ and other competitors like the Kia Stinger with over 300hp this would almost kill the FR-S/86 sales completely overnight. The upcoming Supra is for a totally different, higher cost market. So, if Toyota doesn't boost the power of the FR-S/86 to at least 250hp to keep competitive, Scion brand will probably going to be dropped and all the development that Toyota put into a great FR-S/86 will be lost.

Toyota outsources the motor from Suburu, why not one with a turbo installed. Who knows, the joint development could split and Toyota could put one of their higher displacement motors in the FR-S/86 platform.

Toyota needs to get their head out their ass and make an educated decision to grow, not kill the FR-S/86 platform

Turbos add cost, weight, complexity, lower throttle response, and lower reliability. The weight distribution is already quite a bit forward - if they added a turbo, that would shift more of the weight up front and likely raise the center of gravity, all of which would negatively effect the handling dynamics of the car. It's just not a good solution in my opinion, although I think it's fine for those who simply want more power.

I do agree that it needs a tad more power but not necessarily "250hp." What this car really needs is more torque in the mid-range and a little more power up top. I believe the best route to take for this is a simple displacement increase or possibly a more advanced intake like Valvematic and things like lighter forged internals.

OK I'll bite. Please answer my (serious) concerns about a turbocharged engine:

- when was the last time Toyota made a turbocharged engine option for the US market?
- what is the intended cost of this factory turbo upgrade? what is the MSRP/price position of said product in the market place?
- what costs is associated with a turbo engine and associated warranty work?
- what is the position of this vehicle in the market place? who will be the primary competitors?
- what transmission will be used? cooling? wheels? tires?

I have another 10-15 more questions that would put a hole in any normal "FRS/BRZ should be turbocharged from the factory" argument... but I'm sure Toyota has never thought about this when they designed the car.

Frankly, I think Toyota/Subaru need to work out the bugs in the FA20 before they open up another can of worms with a factory turbo option.

Another one of these threads..
Eh,I'll bite.

Yes, some people have wanted more power on this platform, but this platform has been acknowledged for being light and having an incredible balance. If a turbo was added, weight would be added, and the balance wouldn't quite be there.
The KIA Stinger is a concept, so I don't actually know if it will hit production. The twins do exactly what they were supposed to do. Not all cars have to be about POWWAAAHHHHH (!!!!!), and the twins prove this. If you wanted to win in a straight line, get another car.

I'm just waiting, personally, for the kinks to be fixed (such as crickets) to buy a twin of my own. Adding a turbo would just add extra problems.

" :suicide: " is right...

Ok, why is it that people feel entitled to start a "new" thread that has been mentioned before just because they write the title in a different way? IT IS STILL THE SAME THREAD AS THE REST BEFORE. You don't need to be #1, just add to an already existing one. -________________________-
