The crickets...

So the fuel pump I ordered in OCTOBER finally came in and the dealership installed it.... the crickets are gone...

I forgot how quiet these cars are.. Honestly... I feel like I have a form of PTSD from this stupid chirping.. I keep thinking I hear it and I go crazy for a heartbeat and start panicking... It's crazy. I hate the chirp so freaking much it really makes the car almost not enjoyable to drive which is saying a LOT because I love the car.

Sitting in it and starting to drive now though honestly.. It feels like a new car again.. which is great because I guess after 7500 miles and about 5500 miles of that being chirping ... I had gone to not really enjoy it and be more embarrassed about it anytime I drove it. I mean come on, this is a brand new car making such a racket!

So in short I'm super super happy to drive the car. I told my gf that I just wanted to drive around, something I haven't said since a week after I picked the car up in the first place! I really really hope it doesn't start back up again.

Am I the only one who has no idea if their car makes cricket noises ?

I've had my car since June of 2012. The crickets went away at like 5k or something. I'm now about to hit 14k and have not heard a peep since 5k.

From about 2,000 to 7,500 they have been so loud they upgraded from crickets to a freaking woodpecker...

Same brand and grade of fuel during that time?

I try to only go to the Chevron by my house to fill up since October of 2013, but that's after the noises had already stopped.

I've definitely put in other gases as well when I was in a pinch. I try to only buy Shell and Chevron though if I can, but I think I've ended up at a 76 or something else at least once or twice.

I had to have someone point it out to me. In my case, the chirp is barely audible at idle, unless I am outside the car. That said, 20K miles and chirping daily with no issues.

It is pretty easy to tell. If your engine is chirping, then you have the crickets. Even if it is minimal, you will hear a slight chirp.

The problem with this is that Toyota just replaces the fuel pump, with the SAME fuel pump, and the problem just arises again 2 weeks later. (Unless they changed the service bulletin and are using a new one?)

Either way, I am going in soon to get mine replaced and we will see what happens. I also need a new ECU, orly bad

I use 93 octane on my fill ups, 90% of which are at the same station. My crickets come and go...even during the same tank of gas. I am at 11500 miles. Heard it since about 3k.

I recently heard crickets while stopping at a stop light, right around 2.5k. But my crickets come and go, the first time I heard them I heard them all the way home, and was like "well fuck, guess I gotta take it in and get the fuel pump replaced." The next day, no chirps, and no chirps until a few days later. It's infrequent, but if they keep creeping up, I'll bring it in.... just hoping they stay away, my VIN should be outside the problem ones.

I've only run Chevron 92 (90%) or Shell 92, both 10% ethanol blend. Crickets arrived @200 mile mark. During warmup no crickets, after that full time.

Yeah I only use 93 and I always use Shell or other high quality gas.

Currently at 930 miles... filled up about 6 times so far. No crickets -knock on wood-

Car was made July 2013.

Been using 91 from Costco only.
