OEMaudioplus 400+ Reference system

I want to preface my review by stating that in the past I have had JL audio, Pioneer Premier, alpine systems in various cars I have owned. Additionally I am DJ and my musical taste spans all genres. When looking for a sound system, ideal for me is a well balanced system to accommodate a wide range of musical styles. When I am driving I love to hear the music as it was meant to be heard and don't want to hassle with constant settings adjustments to achieve that sound. After several days of having the OEMaudioplus 400+ reference system I can say that it meets all of my requirements and some.

I have a 10 series FRS that has the now standard 2014 pioneer head unit. I really like this unit and have always been a fan of pioneer products so it was nice to see scion pairing with them. Getting to keep the stock unit with the 400+ system is a huge bonus plug and play and its super simple. The stock speakers and amp just don't cut it for much as most of us know. with the addition of the new tweeters, 6 inch door subs, and 8 inch rear sub you gain all of the low end that you need, but its not overkill. the whole system in fact is streamline and fit so well to go in the existing spaces that you don't even need to think twice about it which makes for a hassle free install.

As a comparison from stock to after the 400+ system. With stock I was always over volume level 50 and it was distorted, immediately after installing listening to a song I had heard 100 times on the stock system, I went to volume level 32 and I felt way more power than ever did on stock. The addition of the low end is probably the best part, but I don't want to forget to mention the addition of the tweeters and the tuning as part of the new amps making a high end difference as well. I can now hear more clearly vocal overdubs.

The price point is a bit higher than some other aftermarket systems, but you get what you pay for in most instances and this is especially true with this product. The quality of the product and the fit and finish as well the engineering and research behind the 400+ reference system is unmatched in my opinion.

The icing on the cake for me is the painted to match enclosure which is a spot on match to my silver ignition paint it even included a decal that matches to the 10 series theme. :w00t:

this is by far the coolest sub enclosure I have ever owned. mostly because its not square and covered with carpet like every other sub enclosure I have had. :barf:

Its not the most powerful or the biggest show off piece to all of your neighbors when your rolling down your street, but it has a well rounded sound and thats what I wanted. I don't want attention from anyone else, the music is for me inside. my overall opinion is this provides a very clean sound that is well tuned to the car and is very minimalist with a punch.

Thanks again to @oemaudioplus for putting together the group buy here. That triggered my impulsive nerve to pull the trigger and get this system and I couldn't be happier. Great customer service, and super fast shipping that is very well packaged.
I was thinking about it on the way to work today.. adding this sound system has taken the car to another level of enjoyment for me :happyanim:

Any rattling from the trunk?

I have to say prometheus hit the nail on the head. I couldn't have said it better. I've had my system (reference) installed for a little over a week or so. Enjoying every ride in the car even more!

Last Friday night I met up finally with a Facebook group of 86ers in the Central Florida area. Everyone who sat in the car to listen was in awe of the sound of the system. Several have been on the fence in putting down the cash for this mod for their cars. I can tell you that 30 seconds sitting in my drivers seat listening to the crisp clean more defined powerful sound was the last nail in the coffin, they are moving the OEM route. All were impressed with the quality of sound and build of the OEM system.

Thanks again to OEM for a great product. Keep up the good work!

slight rattle on the license plate when turned up with the heavier low end sounds. can't hear the rattle inside the cab, only noticeable if you get out and walk around to the trunk. I added a couple extra strips of padding under the license plate and it fixed that rattle up.

IMO deadening is important for any sound system. I have the 400+ Reference and when the volume is up my rear glass (or rear view mirror not sure) vibrates. I uber deadened my car so there is no rattles but I'd imagine there'd be some sounds if I hadn't. I have it on robust bass reproduction though.

Great review. The reference upgrade is worth the difference IMO. Might sound weird but when I'm not driving I think about what song I want to play on my drive to school now just because it sounds like a live concert experience in my car lol.

Bro I dont know how it works, but hopefully its not the rear glass that's vibrating or you might have some bigger problems..

Great review.
I've spent a lot of $$ and time on the system in my sequoia, so I'm interested in hearing how this setup compares. I really don't want to go through the trouble of designing and building custom crossovers, as well as all the tuning and experimenting with different drivers to dial it all in. If this OEM system is well thought out and tuned properly, it will be worth the money.
I can also relate to lOaded's comments about thinking of songs to listen to next - even when you are not in the vehicle. I have several go-to Sq discs I use, as well as a couple of IASCA discs I use to tune and demo my setup in the truck. Looking forward to flexing the OEM system a bit!

To the OP. I have a quick question as I wait for my system to arrive.
Does the Refernce system bypass the mid-range speakers in the dash?

That is my understanding, but the video OEM has for the reference upgrade mentions removing the mid-range drivers and sending them back to assemble some Umbilical cable needed to bypass them. Was a bit confused by this process.

Thanks.
