Oil Drain Option
We're currently working on our turbo kit for the FR-S/BRZ/FT86 and while looking over the options for a turbo oil drain we realized there was no great way to install it without either removing the front cover or using a sub par drain location.
What we have come up with will be optional on our turbo kit but we understand not everyone will like the idea so more standard options will also be included. What we are using on our race car is a "press fit" custom -10AN bung in the factory dipstick location. We will include a steel -10AN cap with a shorter dipstick marked with the correct levels. Of course this will require removing at least the lower portion of the drain line to check oil but for us it seems worth it. This drain method allows oil to drain back well within recommended angles as well as being above the oil level. It also requires no permanent modification to any part of the engine. This fitting can be easily installed by putting the fitting in the freezer and slightly heating the case with a propane torch or heat gun. At this point it will almost slide into place, at most a slight tap with a hammer & socket will get it installed. Opinions? http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/...o/photo4-1.jpg |
I like the idea, will make checking the oil a hassle. would recommend adding a a/n wrench with the kit. I am curious about your turbo placement now though.

I think I would rather stick with the OEM oil pan and dipstick. I understand that getting the oil return above the oil level is best, but I have not seen anyone have issues with their turbos thus far using the Full Blown method of returning the oil to the front of the lower oil pan. I would personally rather drill into the upper oil pan and thread in a fitting if returning the oil at a higher point is a priority.

It's almost brilliant. The old greddy turbo kits for the 1600cc miata had the oil return through a modified dipstick tube they supplied. I bet with enough thought and testing iterations you can use that location for the oil return and retain a normalish dipstick.
