Home made adjustable end links anyone?
 

So I was at a race shop yesterday getting a corner balance and alignment, and I was talking with the owner about what needs to be done next, like adjustable swaybar end links to adjust pre-load on the swaybars and prevent them from binding.

He then showed me how he typically builds his own end links, as many of them are overpriced, and can simply be built from scratch for a fraction of the price.

Basically it consists of the following:

Threaded tube - ~$14 on Jegs, Summit, etc. (various lengths)
2 Male ball joints - ~$20 for 2 on McMaster Carr
misc nuts/washers - ~$4 at any hardware store

So under $80 for two adjustable end links (almost everything I am finding are $140-$160 for our cars). Has anyone done this yet?

ive done this on my old impreza


nothing wrong, just make sure that the balljoints are tapered right to allow full range of motion... I got the flat ones and had to use random washers to build up length.


and that the hardware you get is corrosion resistant, otherwise you'll have a big rusty mess in no time

Make sure you get high quality spherical bearings and maybe rubber booties to keep them clean.

Hmm... looks like I may need my endlinks a little shorter than the shortest setting that my Whitelines will go. Has anyone replaced the threaded tube of their WL front endlinks with a shorter version? Any idea on the specs?

Just make sure the fasteners you use are a minimum of grade 8.
